Afternoon,

The blue one that had the big spoiler is up for sale again - it is on Enrico's site.

Last time it had a snapped key stuck in the fuel filler cap and I am sure it went for less than £10,000 ?

It is now up for £30,000 !

Is a ghibli cup worth anywhere near that money in the uk?
If it is, i guess my AC will be a good investment instead of a fun toy :)

A really good Cup is worth more than that in the UK. As an example, I sold mine last summer for a bit less than £40k. And the last one sold in the UK was the French Blue car that had done 100k miles and went for about £25k.

Unfortunately this particular Cup is not known to be one of the better ones. Whether it could be returned to glory for sensible money I do not know.

I think it'll take a while for the 3200 AC to get to that level, but it will happen eventually. But there are nearly 4 times as many of them, so the lower rarity factor will play a part.

That guy eventually removed the horrible rear spoiler as he got slated for it. I had a look at the car when it was for sale a few years ago, it was ok but not great and had lots of niggles, most disturbingly it was fitted with Stunner tyres. Always a bad sign in my view, if he's skimped on tyres what else has he skimped on? I spoke to Andy Heywood at McGraths about the car and he diplomatically said it wasn't the best example out there. It had a fortune spent on it by the guy who put the spoiler on it, I have all the rolling road printouts somewhere, it has an Open Cup engine fitted and tuned to 365 bhp. The car eventually sold for £9k so not a bad markup in 6 years. As Ewan says £30k or more wouldn't be an unrealistic price for a good one, not sure if its the right price for that one with the faults that are listed, suspension alone can cost a fortune to fix, having said that, the way prices are rising it may well be worth fixing up.

It's the highest mileage, least original UK Cup, in not great condition. I'd value it at possibly £20k, but wouldn't pay that myself. Doing the suspension, refurbishing the wheels properly and a respray will take up the first £15k of restoration costs. And after that you'd still be the owner of the highest mileage and least original (therefore lowest value) Cup.

It's a shame that car is a bit of a dog. As per my other thread I am still on the lookout for a decent Ghibli and although £30k is the top end of my budget, I would have stretched to that for a decent Ghibli Cup but it looks like this isn't it. :(

Hello Guys, that's interesting to hear people talk about my car. I think you should come and have a look before slagging it off. The blue one has been my car for 6 years and I've spent a lot of money on it. It had a respray 3 years ago and looks great, it's got a few small stone chips on the front and a couple of light scratches, that's all. I just spent £4800 having most of the niggles sorted at Bill McGraths, all the wheels were reconditioned and it now wearing Good Year F1. It's true the suspension still doesn't work, I always liked the ride as it was. Anyway it's up for sale next week at Classiccarauctions.com at Warwichshire Exibition Centre, so we'll see what it's worth. Cheers Pete

Its not at classiccarauctions.com its actually here http://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/1997-maserati-ghibli-cup

As for the comment about slagging your car off Malcolm. Most of the comments relate to the car prior to you buying it but also in all fairness the CCA report give it 82/135. So it would seem the same as others have said there is still work to be done to bring it back to its full former glory.

I don't know guys, from the photos and the write up I reckon if you were in the market for a cup, this may be worth a look. The history reported here would not put me off if the paperwork backed up restoration work had been done.....the one niggle is that the write up does not mention any issues with the suspension the seller is commenting on, but guess that is why the score is mid range?

Good luck with the sale Malc, you have clearly lavished such a rare car with love....SHe looks lovely. This was the Maserati model that really made me yearn to own one.

Every car has it's price & there are so few cups around, especially in RHD. It's a nice colour combination too, good luck with the sale and if I was in the market for one, I'd be tempted

I love the Auction house description.

" it was only available in four colours - Red, White, Yellow and French Blue"

Which causes problems for this one being Dark Blue and Jim's and mine for being silver.........

Not forgetting black, green, grey and light blue as well! (Plus there were two different choices of dark blue.)

Malcolmwrong / Pete,

I see unfortunately the car did not sell, could I ask if there is a price you would let the car go for - pm me rather than posting on general forum ?

I had asked a friend to go and have a look for me - but he was away.

Thanks

Del

So with so few Cups made, are there any two the same?! It seems an incredible array of colours for so few cars made - what a unique car they are, I'm a big fan.

There are quite a few with the same spec, several red cars with black interiors, several blue cars with black interiors, and several black cars with black interiors (including European & Japanese versions). As far as I'm aware you could order a Cup in any of the standard Ghibli exterior and interior colours available at the time. I also know of one UK car that was specified with the wood interior trim of the GT rather than the carbon fibre effect trim you would normally see in a Cup.

Interesting, it's nice that they were prepared to do that on such a low production run. By the time they got to the 75 x 3200GT Assetto Corsa for the UK, there were three external colour choices and all of the interiors were the same.
I cant see too many manufacturers today giving such wide choice as Maserati did for the Cup - maybe that was one of the reasons they were in financial difficulty at the time
