Dash cam recommendations?

Hi everyone

I'm thinking if getting a Dash cam. I doubt I'll wire it in as I don't really want the hassle of wiring it in, nor do I want a camera in the window when parked as someone may want to steal it!

Idea is to charge it at home, then hopefully run it off the batteries while driving. Also, this allows me to use it in multiple cars.

Any recommendations thoroughly appreciated.

Thanks

I am exactly the same as you, however my primary use is for speed camera alerts.
I use the Aguri GTX200 which combines a dashcam with camera alerts. I use it in conjunction with a power pack. The power pack and device sit in the drivers side corner. The Aguri stuck to the windscreen can still cover a wide enough angle, and the power pack sits on a no slip dash mat. Both can be stored in central bin or glovebox. The pack easily lasts eight hours, and the Aguri offers free camera updates via Bluetooth.

Have just looked this up - looks smart. How does it alert you to stuff, and does it get many false positives so that it's always alerting you to a speed trap that isn't actually there?

Unfortunately like all gps/detector devices it cannot get around the issues of false alerts. Particularly with the radar/lazer.
However both these can be disabled, which I would advise particularly in town. The GPS database doesn't differentiate between cameras locations in the opposite side of the road, but suffers from false alerts less than my previous Road Angel.
Again like a lot of these, the screens are difficult to see in sunny weather and are quite small, but the verbal alerts and alarm give sufficient warning without the need to look at the screen, and are not overly intrusive. Dashcam footage is viewable via your PC or from the device itself.
On the positive it offers free updates for life via Bluetooth, the fact both the small unit and power pack can all be easily installed and removed, and the overall functionality quality and finish of the product is excellent.
If you were interested in going ahead I can provide details of the power pack etc.

I'm not bothered about the speed camera detection as I don't speed. The Aguri DX10 looks too good to be true at the moment though. There's a £50 discount so its only £40. Thanks for the tip, I may pick one of these up for M to capture all of the idiots we see driving around here.

Having had a look at this I found....
No dash cams have internal batteries that could power the dash cam for more than 10mins use. You must use external power source (cigarette lighter)

That for me is a pain in the a rse. As i don't want cables trawling all over the place.

What i will be trying is...
OSMAnd DVR iPhone app.
A dash cam app for you iPhone. As I have a spare iPhone that i do not use, calls do not come in on it, i will try using that. I realise that it won't record at 270 degrees, but the quality will be very good and i won't need to have cables everywhere.

Will see how it goes
