dash-cam: worth it?

Did you get the extra battery pack as well? It added a few quid but gives about 12 hours use without draining the car battery.

Good tip regarding turning off parking mode - thank you!
No problems, and nope I decided against the extra battery pack 'so far' that is, cos of the infrequent use the car gets, and when it's not in use its parked in a locked garage away from the road.
One other point when you switch on parking mode - you can conserve power by selecting the movement t detection option rather than the time lapse. In movement detection the camera switches on only when there is an impact detected.
Also, and not sure if this is only applicable to the LTE model, I've switched on the GPS tracking mode. Although there is a monthly charge, it allows you to see on a map the journeys you've been on. Call me daft, but it's quite interesting to see the routes you have taken particularly on a longer journey.

Hmmm... so you can set it to make a note of when you start to enjoy driving..!

I saw a YouTube video where insurance companies are considering technology which you will have to have to get insurance in the first place that will monitor driving style, and alter your premium accordingly...big brother or direct line etc is watching you!

Already doing that via Telematics on any new car now.
That's all I did last year for Toyota and Lexus this side of the Channel.

I have deselected all boxes; this looks more like a 'fleet' kind of option where you want to see whether the delivery driver has been trying to pull 2G around every roundabout.

Given the cost of installing some kind of tracker, presumably this is geared more towards younger / higher risk drivers, or?

What with telematics appearing on company vehicles (for safety!) , kids having to have black boxes for insurance purposes, it's all a big creep towards big brother. In 30 years time, it'll be standard. Fun will be outlawed.

In the same way that some insurance companies already mandate trackers and/or dash-cams (and some don't), I like to believe that some insurance companies will be less antsy than others when it comes to the installation of telematics bolloxy blah-blah.

Probably worth it if only to protect yourself from the idiots who think a dash cam gives them license to drive as they see fit, and then point at the camera like it absolves them from the daft driving... I may just have met one such person today.
