Are they in any way a relation to the X1/9? Or shall I wash my mouth out?

I don't think so.........The X1/9 was going to be the baby brother to the Lancia Montecarlo which I think was going to be called the X20 but it didn't happen although they share many many parts!!

The AC ME 3000 always reminded me of a TR7

Way off the original thread, but some fabulous humour as always.

Do keep it up.

Ages ago, I did see ROB 1N, I think on a Morris Marina (current time). But of course not may were that much bothered by such plates, merely novelties.

Way above my head now.

ROB 1N was in a DVLA auction in Chester when I was about 20, so roughly 1990/1991 and my dad sent me from London to buy it with a budget of £25,000 it sold for £26,000 and I stopped bidding at the budget he had set me.

When I got home and told him, he said I was an idiot and I should have kept bidding and he wouldn't have minded!!!!

I have since seen it for sale for over £100k.....

(My first name is also Robin for those who don't know).

DVLA protect us from obscene number plates but `I am sure some get through the vetting process, how about

PEN 1 S

STR 1 P was on Peter Stringfellows car at one point, now on a Bentley Azure which strangely is out of MOT.
P 4 NTS is on a Ferrari 599
MAG 1 C belonged to David Nixon and then Paul Daniels but now is on an 95 Izuzu Trooper of all things

I bought a Range Rover in the late 90s that had M2 JBM on it. When I sold the car, the new owner didn't want the plate so I kept it on retention. The certificate was about to expire (used to be 1 year) and so being a Scotsman I realised it would be cheaper to just put it on my car. Been on them ever since. A few years later I bought M22 JBM and M222 JBM for £250 each which is the lowest price direct from the DVLA. So the wife's car is M22 and my motorbike is M222.

Then, back in 2011, I knew that my name plate would come up and that I would kick myself if I didn't buy it. It cost me the princely sum of £499 and i've since turned down £3k for it. It's on my daily driver 5 series and it AT11OLS. I haven't bothered with the black bolt between the 11, if you know my name you can see it. If you don't, it just looks like an 11 plate. I like that stealthy thing.

I've had other cars that came with plates but have either given them away or left them on the car when sold.

I did also buy MC10UPE when it came out for £399 and sold it to BMW UK for their press M1 Coupe (the nice orange one) for £2k.

Steve Parish had PEN 1S, he was Barry Sheene's teammate back in the 70's.

Back 2006 I saw EA 51 SEX on a Mercedes, driven by some old bloke...

I was reliably informed it was never issued, Bury plate.
