Yep,
B & Q are starting to read open stores too, with social distancing measures.
I think we may be seeing the start off a “soft” phase of preparations for relaxing “some” measures.

Some of the B&Q stores have been open for a week now, certainly Chester has. Might be worth a google and see if your local is on the list.

Can a private buyer go and pick up a car though? All very grey this.

Nope, you can't. I dont think it's very grey tbh, particularly around this. The guidance is clear that you have to avoid non-essential journeys, and that you have to work from home if possible. If you can't work from home and if it isnt a shut down sector (like pubs, most retail etc) then you can continue to operate if you/your employer can take account of social distancing guidelines.

A transporter company can't work from home, so they can continue to collect/deliver cars. Following the same guidance you can't collect it as a private individual - but you can pay a company to collect it! My old car was sold by private sale and headed off to Somerset via transporter on Monday - the buyer works for the NHS, but couldn't collect in line with the government requirements.

As a note to the thread title - they never had to stop, so it's not a restart. Just seems like a bit of motoring sector PR to remind people that car sales can continue.

Correct. It has always been the case but given that it was poorly communicated, the Govt have clarified this last night. I have been aware of this for a month, hence the notice on our homepage, and have actually been pretty busy.
