ECU re-programming?

I had an ECM unit reprogrammed with two maps - a high torque optimised one - ... I have pro-speed sports cats on the car ...

Reckon we were separated at birth ... exactly what I had done, plus FD springs and drive-by-wire module also for the heck of it.

No, mines only done 9k. :)

58k for an F430 engine is a very different proposition to a 4200 or GS of similar mileage. They share few characteristics and even less parts!

Also IIRC the 4.3 engine produces no more torque than the 4.2, so you would probably have to wring its neck to get that noticeable performance.

Would love to hear how the Fezza engine sounds in the coupe though, especially at full chat.

From personal experience, a 4200 with a decent pipe has a better tone than the 430 with much more bass. As the revs climb so does the pitch but the bass increases as well. With the 430 it's all top end howl but it's a bit one dimensional. I had many compliments at Dunsfold regarding the amount, and quality, of sound my spyder put out. Cross plane beats flat plane in my book.

Maser Sod, The F355 engine is generally accepted to be the best sounding V8 Ferrari have every produced. The one in the photo is going on a car (not an F355) with an X-Pipe and no silencers! Should sound good....

Hi fellow enthusiasts!
Being that I've enjoyed this site from getting EXCELLENT technical information, thought I may be able to add something. I have an 02 Spyder CC. I experienced some intermittent problems that pointed at the ECU. It wasn't the ECU in the end, but I almost did an ECU tuning at the same time. Basically, I decided I didn't need it. I had a Tubi exhaust system put on and it picked up a few horses from that alone. The place I was going to send my ECU to is in the USA and its called Fabspeed. I was quoted $1500 (Canadian dollars) for the flashing, and $150 in shipping. (I can't imagine the shipping would be that much more to the UK). The website is www.fabspeed.com, but here is the link specific to Maserati: http://www.fabspeed.com/PDF_files/EVOMSit Maserati Prices.pdf
Not sure if this is relevant, but wanted a chance to "give back" to the site that has helped me so much!!:drinks:

Hi Tubber. Welcome and thanks for the info. DMS here in the UK does an ecu flash for the same sort of money. However, any new options are good to know so thanks again for the input.

I must say, for that sort of money, i would be expecting a bit more more of a bump in power. They are only offering 390hp and less than 400Nm of torque for the 3200 whereas most of the other tuners get 420hp and 450Nm.

Thanks BennyD. Very happy to be a part of this "fraternirty". In my humble opinion with the desire for more horses, it comes down to personal preference. You want max power available,? Chip it, flash it, and upgrade the exhaust. With a base of 390hp, most everyday drivers are going to happy with that, but there are the select few that when money is no object, the sky is the limit. With the Tubi's I got more HP and a fantastic sound. Do I want more...SURE!! Do I need more...not really. Love the car as it is now, but I certainly get the desire for more. Cheers to everyone, and cheers to personal preference!! LOL
