Eww Josh, why is the carpet wet?!?

When we got home, I pulled back the floor mat on the passenger side and it was soaking.

:worried1:

Fearing the worst, I felt around under the dash and thankfully it was dry as a bone. It seems to be coming from the door sill. It doesn’t taste of anything (other than old wet carpet) either, which I think is promising?

Got the Bissell out and sucked up as much as I could.

Any tips on where this could be coming from - fingers crossed it’s not the matrix!

Blocked cabin filter drain is main culprit and starting point. They block with leaves and debris and back up. Panel on right hand (drivers) footwell side of transmission tunnel. Take out three Phillips screws, wiggle forward, down and out to free it and then feel around under the centre console for the square rubber pipe going the rough metal tunnel, pull that up and towards you but have a pot ready to drain about a pint into!

realise that is the issue, remove wipers, scuttle and knuckles to access the pollen filter and look on Alternativecparts thread for part number table and buy the Cooper one at £7 to replace the soggy mess with. Remember to clear all the leaves and cr@p out first and return the drain pipe to the correct location.

Last summer I noticed the A/C condensate was taking a long time to drain. When I pulled the end of the drain tube out it looked like it had been pressing against the heat shroud. Clipped some off and it was fine.

Coupe or Spyder?
Spyder rear B post drain blocks and fills the footwell from the rear.

Hi Josh
I never had a problem with it in the 4 years I had it. It did live in a garage and never really did collect any leaves etc in there. The scuttle area was clear when I checked it during lockdown. Could the A/C condensation drain pipe be blocked somehow as it normally produced quite a pool of water under the car when stood. Think it runs down the drivers side of the centre console.

Yes will check that pipe when it’s next dry. It’s not parked under trees here, so I doubt it’s been collecting debris.

I do wonder whether I’ve just been jetwashing it a bit too much!!

It's the one with the yellow paint on (looking like 70) and above the yellow paint blob that looks like an 'L'. Just pull the tube out of the square grommet. Be ready to catch any water because that's an open ended pipe.

You will find that the end is shaped which results in it being closed, water is meant to be able to flow through it, it doesn't, you need to cut the end off so it is just around tube.

Exactly what I did with mine. There's chance that road muck can block it from the bottom, but it never did. That's what the shape is meant to prevent.

Ok, I got the pipe out and nothing came out of it. It wasn’t particularly dirty either.

Blasted a bit of compressed air up it and nothing came out.
