I haven't been to the F1 yet and I really should go.

Have any of you been? Should I look at going somewhere that is not Silverstone?

Any tips you want to give me?

Thanks

Yeah, DO NOT go to Silverstone....

Spa would be my choice as a first time visitor. The atmosphere and the history are epic

It would be great if we could arrange one F1 weekend, as a forum. Without cars, just in for the whole 3 day event, combining it with good food. Anyone interested?

I have been to Silverstone, Monza, and Detroit when it was on. Silverstone is just too expensive, can get grandstand seat package at Monza for the price of General Admission at Silverstone, plus it's a nightmare to get in and out of. Never been to Spa, but it's on the list as it's a great circuit.

Been to Silverstone (not recommended)
Portugal Estoril (in the 1990's) - really good
Monaco good experience but no good for F1

Want to go to Spa - watch the weather

Friend of mine is an experienced watcher and Spa and Monza are the two that he recommends. I understand Hockenheim is pretty good as a trip if not a racing experience.

I have been to Monza for the F1, great atmosphere and an historic circuit. I have been to almost every European circuit on events, I would like to see F1 at Spa but with decent tickets as the infrastructure is a bit iffy and I just hope the Spa officials treat spectators better than they do competitors. The other European race I would like to go to is Hungary as it seems to be a real drivers circuit.

I am going to stick up for Silverstone, since the roads were improved I have never had a problem getting in or out over the F1 weekend. It is expensive, agreed but the facilities are far better than almost any other circuit in Europe, it is also one of the most historic circuits on the F1 calendar (lets not forget the first ever World Championship F1 race was held at Silverstone) and the British fans are amongst the most enthusiastic in the world so the atmosphere is fantastic. If you live close enough to Silverstone to go to several events during the year such as the World Endurance Championship, Silverstone Classic etc.,.. it is worth joining the Silverstone Racing Club, members can buy tickets for the F1 in their grandstand for £243 for all three days and parking is included as part of the membership, as are the clubhouse facilities away from the crowds.

If you do go I would say a grandstand ticket is a must as to get a decent place with a General Admission ticket you would need to be there when the gates open to bag a place and be prepared to sit there until the race starts to keep your place.

Silverstone once; hated it. Camped overnight, was there queueing up at the chain-link fence at Copse super early. Stood in the cold and rain all day, by the time the race started we were swamped with other fans and couldn't see a thing.

Spa several times; love it. Have watched the race from various places, Eue Rouge, Kemmel, Les Combes, Malmedy. Great views from the steeply banked slopes above Pouhon. Marvellous atmosphere.

Hungaroring; okay circuit to spectate at, very quick access to and from Budapest which is a great place. Great Irish bar opposite the West End station was really rocking when Eddie Irvine's sister brought his 2nd place trophy back after the race.

Hockenheimring; good for spectating in the stadium complex. Awful food. The time I was there our grandstand was facing the sun - summers in Germany can be hot - I've never been so hot in my life, and that includes years working in the Gulf, I thought I was going to pass out.

Kuala Lumpur; been only once but would love to return. If you get cheap enough flights it actually works out about the same price because the gate price is a lot less. Lovely well-designed for viewing circuit, gorgeous facilities, grandstand seats instead of suffering on the grass, and the best bit is the food. No scummy over-prices burgers, just the best satay, nasi goreng, rendang, cooked freshly and costing pennies.

Spa would be my choice, a few years ago we went and it was cheaper all in (ferries, hotels and entrance) than it was walking across the road to Silverstone (entrance only). Silverstone prices are better now but still on the high end compared to other events.

Monza would be my next choice as I have never been when there is a race on.

Went to Monaco in 2001.
Had my wallet nicked on the train in from Nice, that was a good start.
You saw the race from one viewing point and didn't have a clue what was going on!
May be different now with the current tech.

Been twice..Silverstone and Monza.......A great event but far too much money these days...and if it was me I would do a European event over Silverstone....Monza was so much better than Silverstone...Atmosphere, the whole event was just brilliant.

Thanks that is great feedback. I have been to Spa for a track day so fancy somewhere different. Sounds like it is Monza. Pity I have to wait till September though.

So who wants to go? Road trip!

Eurotunnel then a nice long drive!

Any pointers gratefully accepted and I will get organising.

Monaco once, many years ago (1993, I think). Great experience, box ticked, wouldn't bother going again. The best part was the trip there and back - 4 mates together, with 2 of us sharing the driving in a brand new Alfa 75 twin spark. A real oddball car as it was a run-out edition with all sorts of weird features and extras.

I went to Monza once and was treated to 3 days of rain and clouds, although it always looks sunny and blue on TV. To make matters worse some young German upstart in a Toro Rosso humiliated the Ferraris on their home turf to take his first ever GP win. And then my wallet was nicked while I was in the crowds watching the podium ceremony. But the atmosphere was great and Milan is a brilliant place to spend a few nights.

Yep I'd agree with that. Always found the British GP a bit lame.

Go to Le Mans now that's racing!

Went to the first Singapore night F1 race . Def the one to go to . I agree Matt the British race is a bit rubbish , and over priced! A whole weekend pass including friday practice with granstand was about £150 in Singapore!
