It wasn't an power failure, Hamilton was "thick" enough to know that it was a very temporary chance to overtake his team mate who had made a mistake of selecting the wrong engine mode that Roseberg corrected 1 second later. It was therefore a rare chance for an easy overtake on a track notoriously difficult to overtake on unless you have a big car advantage (as demonstrated by Ferrari and Red Bull for the rest of the race), which of course he doesn't have as they are in the same cars. Rosberg shut the door too late IMHO as he was alongside, but actually a fair racing incident with blame on both sides. I think a "tool" would slow down and wait for his team mate to make a full recovery whilst watching Ferraris and RedBulls charge past both of them.....

Rosberg was down 180 BHP whilst in this mode so closing speeds were much higher than either of them would have expected.

Fair points - I've since read the team analysis of the engine modes etc., so yes, it was a reasonable point for Hamilton to attempt to overtake in hindsight. However, hindsight wasn't available to him at the time, and my comments about him being a tool and thick as a plank go much much deeper than this one incident.

I'm at home off work sick as a parrot with a ruined stomach so I'm catching up on the race now on All4

I'm a massive hamilton fan, have been since his first race in F1 so of course I would say it was Rosberg's fault but until I saw the replay I was thinking tut tut Lewis but looking at the replays the blame is not on Hamilton... also considering he is 1 FIA reprimand away from a grid penalty I'm sure the FIA would not hesitate to throw the book at him for causing a collision...

Lewis seems to be a very polarising character and considering most people who follow any kind of sport in this country are at least mildly patriotic, I am constantly surprised at how much flack he gets. Maybe he has a way of rubbing people up the wrong way, I don't know and I am not a huge F1 fan but to me, he seems to be very talented as well as incredibly successful and when compared to Nigel Mansell & Damon Hill for example, at least as good and possibly much better than both of them and yet way, way less popular.

Just my thoughts & observations and as I said, I'm not a massive F1 fan but I met Lewis just as he was embarking on his F1 career and he seemed very decent and polite to me

So true Stuart, it is an odd one, but I suppose the public have just not taken to him like they did with say Jensen or Hill and even Hunt and Mansell.

I think the Brits see their F1 champions as Gentlemen, something Lewis is not.

True Matt.....

Me, I think is he is great F1 driver and want to him to keep winning...He is British and don't care if people think he is arrogant or not....The drivers like Schuey and Lewis always divided opinion and have an air of arrogance about them .... most of the top sports men do and that's why they are doing what they do and why they are at the top of their game......They need that edge and nothing matters except winning.....I for one am pleased Lewis is a great British champion......

Surely being arrogant is a pre-requisite for any multiple world champion. Do you remember how much of a **** Alonso used to be when he was in a car capable of winning a race? lol

Lewis and Jensen get on with each other very well, fantastic team mate relationship when they were both at McLaren, I really enjoyed the years that they raced together. You could tell that they had a good fundamental understanding, perhaps something along the lines that both fathers John Button and Anthony Hamilton had to grind and go without in order to nurture their raw talents.

Hamilton came from nothing which I really admire, his first year was Senna-like in that he went in and smashed to established order, of course being in one of the best cars on the grid at the time helped. He did seem a bit socially awkward in his early years which I can see a lot of the British public did not like and now... well if I could live it up like that while being an extremely successful athlete then I would...

Lewis has one goal to win and probably at all costs as Sunday showed, his idol in Senna who had a similarly mentality. His record speaks for itself, when he joined McLaren he was immediately on team mate Alonso pace and eventually beat him to 2nd place in the championship losing to Kimi by 1 point. In 2008 he went one place further and took the title. He is by far and away the best British driver of the current era and would be up there with Vettel & Alonso as the best overall.

However this win at all costs goes against the British spirit of fair play, most other drivers have been nice guys which ultimately has stopped them reaching the absolute pinnacle that the likes of Schumacher & Vettel have achieved. He drives me to frustration that with all that talent he still makes some silly decisions, Sunday being one of them, but I can't help admire how well he can pedal a race car. F1 should be the best drivers in the best cars, the current crop including Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso and even the new boys like Verstappen & Sainz are certainly up there with the very best, I for one would settle for a fraction of their talent.

There was a prog on TV recently (I think I posted it on here) about Jim Clark and it showed how he became champion.
It was interesting to see how he went on holiday with Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill etc. They were friends in a dangerous sport, they all wanted to win, but the difference to now is they were Gentlemen, this present crowd are not and never will be with only the odd exception.

Usain Bolt. Ibrahimavich. Hamilton. Messi. Ronaldo.

You either love them or you hate them. It would be a dull world without these characters. And as Brits, we have a habit of slagging off British success. If he was American, he'd be a presidential candidate by now.

I really don't get this he's no gentleman stuff but there you go. Also I still don't understand why the he's regarded as being solely to blame as he doesn't force Rosberg to slam the door (too late) in such an ungentlemanly way.....

Made my day, worst looser, least gentleman and totally self regarding oik made the mistake of going for a gap that never existed. As Lauder says. Lewis was overly aggressive because he was embarrassed by being overtaken by the Mercedes golden boy who can speak five languages, represent German products with style, is blond and doesn't fidget with his bl00dy hair during everybody's national anthem.

This discussion proves my point - Lewis, if nothing else, absolutely polarises opinion!!!

You just might see the council estate oik joining Ferrari some day soon when old man Kimi (he who couldn't even overtake a Red Bull with 80hp less and with DRS) retires hopefully at the end at the season..

Spending the time i do at the teams in the UK, there is no regard held for either driver.. Rosberg is considered a silver spooned petulant child who cheats and throws his rattle out if he cant get what he wants, and Lewis is a playboy who although fast buggers things up for himself. Not my opinions as I dont care anymore its boring as ****.
