were the F1's def rubbish then?

The F1 box on the 355 was the first F1 box Ferrari made and it wasn't that well developed, changes were slower than a manual. They got the F1 box right on the 360 as the F1 box out sold the manual on the 360.

With that Capristo you'd want a manual to get the full joy of heel and toe / blipping on the down shifts!
I'd say at least 50% of the driving pleasure. The F1 box may attempt it? But the satisfaction of the manual would do it for me.

My brother in law had a 360 with a F1 box and he lent it me for the day...Must say I wasn't a fan of the box...Think it was a few more years before they got it right...Better than a 355 but still not for me....The box on my M3 CSL was much better.

Yeah, they got it right with the 360 CS as this had a revised F1 system, Ferrari got the change times down to 100 milliseconds with this car.

Mine was an F1 and although a bit rough in town i loved the brutal changes in sport at full tilt. I even thought about buying one again recently.

Hi Andy,
The 4200 is a lot smother but I would prefer a sportier change, hence why I'm having the DMS chipping done tomorrow as they will change the gear change mapping as well. I find the 4200 can be very mushy especially when not in sport mode.

Hmmm yeah the mushyness is what i also found in the 4200 i drove yesterday. I was able to drive it then jump straight into the 355 manual so was able to see a huge difference between the two. Obv there would be semi auto to manual but even so i was hoping for a little more response from the 4200. Can you explain the DMS chipping then what does this do?

The DMS chipping will if it does what they say up the Bhp to 438 with super unleaded and the torque, increase the rev limiter and change the gear change to the gransport mapping.
