First Maserati and very happy

Hello All,

I'm Paul from south Wales, I'm 33 and have been buying and selling cars since I was 17. I'd like to think I know a few things about most cars after owning around 150 of them but can honestly say I know nothing about the Maserati

So I'm patient and willing to learn so any help is greatly appreciated.

I've just purchased a 06 Cambiocorsa and loving it.

First thing I did was book it into Pro-speed exhausts. Let's face it, if you have a Ferrari engine we shouldn't suffocate it, we should let her sing  so having an x-pipe made and cats removed.

BUT - this is now where I'm stuck, want to put 19" or 20" alloys on her but don't want to ruin the ride quality. I need a clutch sometime soon but can't find one cheaper than £750. The rear suspension is creaking slightly so think the trackrod ends needs replacing and if I only go for 19" alloys want to drop it slightly too.

I'm also wondering if it's a f430 engine which has 510bhp, what are the differences for the 124bhp.

Sorry for the long winded post.

Kind Regards
Paul

Just read up on the differences between the engines (which is loads) and am happy with that answer lol Maserati is designed to last and the Ferrari .... Well isn't

Welcome to the madnes Paul. Pics are always a good start here. I can't give any technical advise here. But what I can say is drive it and enjoy. That's what we can do in our Maseratis. Looking at miles on Ferrari they to scared to drive em.

Thanks Steve.... Yeah I'm def not scared to drive it and use it. Finding it hard to get out of and not use is the problem

Welcome Paul. The GranSport has 19s and the ride is worse than the 4200 with 18s and, personally, I wouldn't even think about putting 20s on. Be careful with the Prospeed exhaust set up as they have been known to 'boom' quite badly between 2-4k rpm and it can become a PITA. If you can buy a full clutch for £750 make sure it's genuine and unused. The last time I had a clutch in (Nov 12) with a flywheel, cover, plate, Hill Engineering release bearing and spigot bearing, it cost me nearly £1500 in parts. Let us know how you get on with your new Italian mistress.

Welcome.

So 19 wheels - Formula Dynamics do a set or you could get GS ones but neither option is cheap.
Ride will be harsher, if you do what you say it will ride like a GS.
Clutch sounds bang on the money for parts, but factor in a flywheel, a release bearing (go for Hills Engineering one far better than stock) and a spigot bearing...get it all done as its the time that costs on this job. Also a new F1 relay.
Creaky suspension may be the wishbones - arm and leg there, and the rear lowers are prone to failing ball joint and that is not replaceable.

If thats for a set of 4 they must cost pennies to make...I would want to see their certification that they are robust enough.

No knocking things but the GS wheels are seriously over priced... I deal with wheel manufacturers a lot and all that's really important is load rating and weight. Build quality will show under load quality.
If you want to step up from Aluminium them magnesium or Billet wheels. Otherwise style is what ur paying for.

Totally agree with wheel price.

Totally, just paying for the name.... But we have bought Maseratis so we are all guilty of it lol
Can't think of another car in the price range I'd swap it for. Now if the Alfa 8C suddenly dropped in price. I'd be all over it.
