Having lurked here for some time enjoying the banter and picking up some very useful insights into Maser ownership, I have taken the plunge and bought one - a QP 4.7S in blu nettuno / sabbia. As a confirmed 'Alfisto' who needs a reasonably roomy 4-door, the QP was the only real option. I had waited patiently for years for Alfa to replace the (much under-rated) 166 but since this is still some way off, I had to decide what else to do. I looked at 5-series, A6/A7 and XFs but, good as they are, they just didn't do it for me. It was going to take a lot to make me let go of the iconic Busso V6 in the Alfa, but when I drove a QP I knew I had found the solution. It has the same Italian feel and character that I am so used to, but obviously a lot faster and more dramatic!
I'm still in the 'getting to know it' phase and getting more comfortable with it. It doesn't feel big on the road bit it is a bit of a challenge to park! Fuel consumption makes the 166 seem like an economy car! But it is a great looking car with more performance than you could reasonably need on public roads and a sensational sound track. Mostly I'm listening to the V8 rather than the radio.
Many thanks to Richard Grace for his straightforward and honest advice. Although I ended up buying elsewhere (due to very limited availability of what I was looking for), I would certainly recommend Richard to other prospective owners. Also, James at Graypaul Nottingham provided a memorable hand-over and ensured the car was in superb condition for me.
Now I just have to think of somewhere to drive today....!
