Although, it's a straight bit of canal, they do 10 knots so I wonder how the h€ll he got stuck...bit like people crashing on a motorway all on their own...

Surely it can't be that difficult to pull it out? Sht load of tugs on the stern, pull like fck and when it's free a couple on the front to pull the bow straight? (note the use of technical maritime terminology here :lol2:) need a bit of farmer logic instead of pussyfooting around. LOL

Tonnage of Ever Given, 219,079 tonnes.
Bollard pull of average tug 70 tonnes.
Where are you going to attach the dozens of tugs required.
Tugs are not just sitting around waiting for ships to run aground.
Don't get me started on the frantic negotiations that will be taking place between the Captain, tug skippers, Shipping company and Insurance company re.salvage

While I totally agree that it's nothing like as simple as initially portrayed at a guess the tugs would not have to have a pull of >219079 tonnes otherwise you'd have the same problem guiding them into dock, no?

And there's the fact that a significant chunk of that tonnage is going to be stuck on the bank / bed?

I can’t help thinking it should be so difficult - if there are not enough tugs, get one of the other container ships to help.
Of course I realise that it there must be more to it, one thing for sure the longer it’s there the deeper it will ground, making it even harder to pull free

Apparently the tugs are the wrong side of the ship. They need to be on the side that needs pulling, but all they can from where they are is push.
