We are thinking about going for a long weekend to the Dales. We have seen two self catering cottages, one in Masham and one in Ripon. I don't know either place. Anyone got any recommendations?

I would take Masham every time. Its a lovely small market town whilst Ripon is a larger city.

Definitely Masham. Lots of places to visit from there and lots of lovely roads to explore.

Then get yourselves to the Crab and Lobster for a meal

Funnily I've never been, cycled passed one day and there was a band on the pavilion!!
They started jeering me and stuff, all light hearted stuff but I was into last 10 miles of a torturous hilly 70 miler and not feeling too humorous!!

Great place I've eaten there a few times and stayed over in the hotel once, never managed to get one of the themed lodges as they are booked up for bloody ages.

I do like it there nice place nice location and nice food.
