I do like to know roughly what the car is doing though.

I'm in this camp. Years of driving Italian stuff with either the milometer not working (Lancia and Alfa GTV6 - which only woke up above 80 mph) or the fuel gauge broken (Fiat), has taught me to keep an eye on these things.

Being a motorcyclist without a fuel gauge I'd know the milage to fill up yet different models of ZX6R s had hugely different economies. ZX6R F2 from 1996 100 miles to reserve from full, (3 gallons) ZX6R J2 from 2001, 150 miles for same 3 gallons. Strange considering the later engine had more power and bigger carbs... Yes carburettors!

300 miles ! Your not pressing hard enough with your right foot ! :) you can get it lower than that. Brunty about 10 to a gallon.

Im getting somewhere between 260 and 400 out of a tank. Long run to and from the ace meet in february 22 to a gallon. Short trips and blasts around the B roads between 13 and 15 to a gallon.

I have never seen better than 19.1 on mine, that was on trip round Scotland, where in real terms it sat at 18.4!

The mpg on the display is calculated over something like 3000 miles on the 4200. I think you can reset it but thats the only way of getting a proper real time reading on the trip computer. Mine reset just before i went to ace and showed 22 mpg at 70 ish on the trip there and back. Its taken weeks to get back to its current reading of 14 mpg but i managed it on the end :)

i read on another forum a guy was annoyed his mpg had dropped below 60 , he said he'd be doing his best to get it back up during the next week, I said I was annoyed my Impreza had risen to over 20 and i'd be doing my best to get it under during the next week

I can't imagine a life that boring

Reminds me of my time as an RX-8 owner. There were two threads running on the owners club forum; one for people who got 300 miles out of a tank, and one for those that got under 200.

I managed the 300 miles once and it was the most boring tank of petrol I have ever driven. It wasn't repeated.

On a boring trip up the M6 to Scotland I got 24 MPG in the GS, by far the best it has done, the tank of fuel thrashing it around the highlands when I got there was comfortably below 10mpg. I now only do 3-4k per year in mine though so really couldn't care less about the economy anymore, however it was one of the reasons I stopped using it as a daily as I just couldn't justify £25 per day in fuel just for the commute

The best I ever got out of mine on any long run was 24mpg. I averaged between 14-17mpg for most journeys and 8-10mpg on man drives

I never ever look, really don't see the point. If I want an economical car I'd buy a diesel and they are ****!
I worked mine out for budget purposes on the Centenary trip. Budgeted on 16mpg, so by man maths I saved a fortune! ;)
