FYR GT issues poss solution

To summarise, I had all the warning lights illuminate followed by EPB and suspension on every start up in the summer.

So.... the GT has been back at Owens for another 3 or so weeks. I told 'em what to check after discussing the issue further with my man @ Autorevive. And.... last week they came back to me saying they 'BELIEVE' they have traced the fault to poor connectors on the C Can wiring loom, and I quote "We have renewed the pins and connector and the warning lights have gone after being there all through our testing of the vehicle."

So the first thing I told them to check when it went back this time, bet it wasn't checked the first, 2nd, 3rd and 4th... poss more times lost count, was the wiring looms and there you go.... it wasn't the 6k +VAT NIT unit they insisted it was last time. They said if it does it again we can only replace the NIT unit as we have checked everything else.....

Now the funny thing is that when this first happened back in the summer and it went in the guy there said I bet it's the Can wire but they then decided it was the ECU box and removed me of £800. Straight away the lights came back on.

So this could be a issue with a lot of the marque's and warning lights so I'd certainly put poor connectors top of things to check on any warning light issues/buzzers from now on all of these vehicles.

So I'm hoping thats it and its fixed!

However small problem, they still have the car after trying to charge me another £400 to resolve the on going and unfixed fault. I've told them this was the original fault that was not fixed and that poss the ECU box, although they are insisting it was necessary, actually wasn't because the lights came back on immediately after it was replaced. SO perhaps they should actually be crediting me the £800 back. Now for some reason I've not had a reply yet, so guess I've got to next Aug it get a suitable conclusion to this.

Sounds like they missed the basic fault finding course of "check all connections first"

Ask for the original ECU back, & £800.00 credit due,

Cheers

Right the cars back!
They are saying the 2 issues are kinda related as they sit on the same loom and one was hiding the other so I kinda had to go with what they say as I'm no expert on this car. The C Can connections are inside, well between the inner and outer floor pans so you would have thought they would be protected from the elements but it seems good old Italian electrics never fails to disappoint yet again! They replaced all the connections and sealed the unit so I'm trusting that has put an end to that issue.

Glad to hear that Roger,

They said this corrosion and loose connection issue become common as the cars get older, inc 3200 and 4200. So if you get these EBP and suspension lights on and or all warnings lights C can loom connections is the first test to carry out IMO

You can get a connection fault in a new car, so the older cars can get them, but not as often as some would have you believe. We have never had an actual problem with our 3200 AC, but we have had the odd light on now and again, which usually clears itself as quick as it arrives by reseting the system..!!

Had my 3200 two years and it was a regular Christmas tree and was bought at two years old. Hard, therefore, to generalise.

Roger - I'd get a second MD opinion. My personal experience of Lancaster Colchester has been excellent. A schlep for you, I know, but could be worth a go. That or one of the well-renowned indies which sponsor this forum, of course. Good luck, anyway.

it seems fine now Adam, gave it the beans on the track yesterday and no lights no more! it's also OK today so I'd say thats that and I can move on now. Roll on Sept 2014.

Good news, Roger. Shame to miss yesterday - amongst many other things I wanted to have a look at your tricolor front grill.

Then I shall. Your last advice proved excellent, Ben. An acoustic joy. As for the grill-based tri-coloured tribute to Italy, finding suitably sticky stickers is challenging so I'll probably use paint.

I supplied one member with the appropriate strips for £12, thats the cost to me. I think you get 3 goes at it for that i.e 3 stripes of each colour.
