The "online" event may have not been impressive - even though I liked the "no frills, down to Earth" atmosphere - but the hybrid version is one of several new initiatives Maserati really needs, and should improve sales, which can only be good at this point. Of course, the new engine was not a surprise; information about it has been circulating since sometime last Winter. However, the mild facelift of the Ghibli is really nice and should help the model survive a couple more years until the new sedan is launched.
I think the anticlimax is largely due to the fact that this was the first product launch from Maserati for such a long time, and neither the product nor the event matched the anticipation that has been built up. Remember; this launch was scheduled to come after the presentation of the MC20 launch in May (now scheduled to take place in September), which would probably have created a lot of excitement and enthusiasm for Maserati. The more low key presentation of the Ghibli facelift and hybrid engine would have worked perfectly fine following such a "grand" event, which it instead now had to precede.
