Gransport decat options

Just wondering if anyone has tried modifiying their existing Gransport exhaust by removing the restrictive flattened section under the rail with a similar dual pipe set up like larini. Modifying the exhaust looks pretty straightforward.

I also wondered whether anyone has removed the inners of second stage ceramic cats?

Dicky, I've just done a 230 mile blast and I can still hear a whistling sound! Everyone loved the new set up apart from old ladies, small children, horses and just about every other f*cker who wasn't with us!!! I've never heard noise like it. I attached myself to the back of a Lambo, because no one would believe a nice car like my spyder could be capable of producing such a racket!

Benny, it's obscenely loud, have you been through any tunnels in it yet? My ears were ringing 3 hours after I got out! It's way louder than an MC Stradale, the only road car I've been in which is in the same bracket would be an AC Cobra. Get some earplugs :)

Did the airport tunnels on Friday shortly after getting my car off Marios. Wow! Brutal. BTW, I won't be using ear plugs, I've found out that if you go fast enough you leave the sound behind!:D

Yes, I had ProSpeed in Cardiff build me a custom version - but it had two single pipes rather than the twin pipes either side. I was very happy with it, but I also had my GS lowered by 30mm and so it was touch and go getting over speed humps!

About to, purchased a set for this reason and will retain originals. debating whether to just gut them or open & insert a tube piece & reseal.

GS owner has done (gutted only) and reported no marked increase in noise but performance(and fuel ??) improvements

The problem with gutting the originals is that it does not resolve the biggest issue with the whole system, the squish pipes.

It's so restrictive.

If you imagine putting the cat pipe in a vice and and squashing it till its nearly flat, that's what you have.

The only way round it is to do as Pat did but you will have grounding issues, or purchase the Larini twin pipe system.

Partly agree Matt but most of the restriction is attriutable to the ceramic packs in the 2nd cat (600elements) creating a large flow blockage. Yes the pipes are squashed but the compensating factor is these pipes are quite wide hence the cross sectional flow isnt that much inferior to hat of after market products.

(Apart from Larini, Supersprint also do a two pipe system)

(those interested there has been an excellent article posted under my ID written by Amazerati)

The Supersprint system looks very attractive on price - I think my wallet is about to get a little lighter. Shame though that they don't go into much detail about the product on their website.

Is Amazerati's article posted on this forum or ML?

Yes the SS are very keenly priced BUT be prepared to wait - made to order and speaking recently with the factory, production on other product stretched out to Sept. Also haven't heard a set as yet

SS have an online web shop catering for regions where they dont have a distributor (- OZ no go) not sure about UK - check their site

There are 3 GS owners who are interested down under so possibility of bundling an order thru UK for pricing and expiditing manufacture exists

try this, if link fails do a search under ADAM01 subject central exhaust....or PM me

Ordered the SuperSprint decat section, coming in next week.

http://www.supersprint.com/en/prod_z-p-140.aspx

Rest of the exhaust will remain standard (valved rearmufflers)
But i am a little anxious about soundlevels.
What can i expect, will the level with SS be the same in NORMALmode compared to the original level in SPORTStsmode, or even louder?
If so, i will have to add small silencers in the new decatsection i am afriad, because i only seek the benefits of lower temps and better flow, not the extra noise.
But if it is not louder as the original in sportsmode, i can live with it.

Just added Larini sports decats, OEM xpipe & back boxes
Marginal if any external noise level increase
Almost eliminated droning @80km/2000rpm, much quiter inside in either mode
Increase in bhp esp 1&2 gear

Cannot see why u need silencers

Still thinking about something similar myself. Did you weigh up a sports cat option as well as the full-fat decat?

Now thinkking of going down the route of simply buying a Larini X pipe to release some noise. Has anyone kept their system standard on a GS but replaced the resonator with a X pipe. I would be interested in the change in noise.

Cheers

I got the Larini x pipes for start. it give a slightly better throttle response and noticeable increase in noise but not too much. Recently I got my mechanic to remove the two 2nd cats and replaced by two straight stainless pipes (maintain the squashed pipes). The throttle response is a lot better and the noise is almostlike the Granturismo S. in idling and cruising it is not much different but once put the foot down for 50%+ the sound is just amazing.
