If you’re not too fussed about originality, don’t many folk simply remove them completely which gives the engine bay a less plasticky look to it anyway?

That's what I did with my second one and then amongst all the stuff we brought over from NZ to France were this set of covers.
Put them on Marketplace and couldn't believe the demand for them.

If of interest to anyone I have a pair of carbon fibre engine covers (proper full carbon fibre not wrapped) for Gransport available. I purchased these from soprano stu for over £1K from memory but would be happy at £750. They don't have clips as assume you would use those from an existing set.
