GranSport first Issue

Well, thats me worrying.

I have just been out in it and all has been fine. I know the KIS/PIS point needs resetting but I gave it some beans, (pulled like a train, no slip) then parked up in Sainsburys. Got back in some 5 mins later, started, flipped in to first, pressed the accelerator, nothing, no movement. Stopped, restarted, more revs, put it in Sport, Put it in Auto, still would not move. I got out and managed to roll the car a little so not handbrake and at this point I am thinking Oh Sh!t.

Turned it off, locked, unlocked, opened the drivers door, could hear the pump prime started and it moved????

The pull away is very slippy, back to my initial thoughts that the KIS/PIS needs setting. The battery has been flat for a while.

The car drove home fine after that.

Clutch changed some 2k miles ago.

Any ideas?

Isn't the consensus view with these kind of intermittent things 'new battery'?

It's not too hard to envisage the TPS getting confused especially if the KIS/PIS need resetting

I am thinking the same thing.

I just went out and recreated the same conditions, let it cool down for 10 mins.

I could hear the pump prime, started the car, the starter was struggling and in the end there was a screech from the started and the start button did nothing. Then I turned off and on again and it started and drove forwards and back no problem.

What battery do I need, I have a Halfrauds up the road or I have a generic battery down the road that did one for my Spyder for £60 and I never had an issue with it.

096 springs to mind.

096 Matt got mine for the 360 as they are the same from my Honda dealer for £51 inclusive.

Bookmarked.

I'm still suspect of my no-name special. Must remember to plug the CTEK in next weekend.

Matt, I had battery issues during the whole of my GS ownership, tried different batteries, mostly the same result. Have the Tracker removed and, voila, I could leave the car for 3-4 weeks untouched and it would start first time. Prior to that, I would be lucky if it would start after 1-2 weeks of being sat idle.

I have to say, despite having numerous battery issues, I never had an issue whereby the clutch slipped.

I just bought a battery a couple of weeks ago. Went up to the 77mAh Bosch 096 Silver on recommendations from the forum. I'll fish for the thread on it later for you. Got mine from Eurocarparts through Ebay as they offer a buy and collect service that is cheaper than if you just showed up. Works well and the car seems happier with almost instantaneous start up where before it was a little laboured waiting for enough spark to get it going.

Matt, when you parked, did you reverse in? Check the reverse switch spring is ok, not sure if you have the same setup on a GS but mine does not return correctly by itself and if it does it confuses the system and you cannot get any gears. Just a thought...

I'm not sure how a battery that has managed to start the car, and so under charge would bring about this issue, but I guess it's a prudent check nonetheless. I'd be thinking PIS and clutch position sensor.

Matt....you'd be safer sticking up on the old SD.......could a whole raft of things......even a single source....hope its an easy fix all the same, as we all know they don't like sitting around!

Notwithstanding other possible diagnoses, if you do change the battery it's worth noting that the Bosch 096 S5 has a higher cranking current than the S3.

Matt,
The Bosch & Varta 096 S5 are virtually the same, with a 5 year guarantee, they fit and work well..!!
Not moving when in gear can't be battery, must be PIS I would think..??

Quite possibly the clutch position sensor.

or diff according to Marios (which was my first thought as the same thing happened to a mates GTS, broken diff or drive shaft will result in the gearbox not going forward) but surely if the diff was broken, it would not be driving fine now, but I am thinking the clutch did not disengage so position sensor could be it. Also, surely if the diff was stuffed, driving it you would hear some sort of angry noised coming from it???

So, go on, someone tell me that to change the clutch position sensor, the clutch housing has to come off right?

Meridien did the clutch 10 months/2k miles ago, do I have a case?

Other symptons have been the car going click when you press start, turn off and turn on again and it struggles into life.

Off over to Mikes today to get the KIS/PIS set, full reset and cycle the gearbox.

I am hoping that the fact the car has been sat for the past 4-6 months its just battery confusion issues due to lack of use.

Going back to my initial drive of the car, the clutch pick up/drive was a mile wide so hopefully its that and the battery drain issue have confused the position sensor, its possible?

One last thing, when I was stuck with no drive and going from 1st to reverse without drive, I did not notice any selection noise from the gearbox, but the gear selection was being indicated on the dash....but I was preoccupied at the time (with fear) so I could purely just have not noticed it.

It was very wet yesterday, might have been water in the electrics????
