Gransport Ownership So Far....

Hi all,

So bought my first Maserati not too long ago and already put 2,000 miles on the clock! My life for the past 6 weeks has involved driving the gransport and cleaning the gransport. I have permanently been in sport mode and i cant slow down without downshifting. The rev matching and exhaust crackles are just too addictive. Ive gone through more tanks fuel than i care to count but my word the smile has not left my face. Asides from the window ecu going pop its been incredible. Unfortunately i seem to have got used to the power as ive been driving it constantly. No bother, i drive people around and their screams of excitement make me feel like its the first time i have driven the thing!

Its almost like im looking for faults here as its just been so brilliant. The only thing i have noticed is that whilst driving (very) hard i sometimes get a bit of a smell from the engine. Wouldnt say it was oil burning or anything like that but certainly a bit of a smell. Oil levels, coolant, pressure all fine and no rattles or noises. I guess its as i say, just looking for a fault as i cant believe how hassle free its been! Oh and my feet seem to cook from the heat in the footwell!

Heres to many more miles of grinning!

Is the smell of petrol? If so it might just be the carbon filter needing changing. That got me for a while, but the harder you drive, the harder the vacuum system works the condensation filter and the more you get a petrol smell in the cabin if it's in need of replacing.

If it's not petrol then you can ignore this.

Not smell of petrol no. One idea i had was the engine getting really hot and just burning something due to the heat. For example the heat shield under the bonnet has a spot on it that has burnt or the sealant stuff from around the RC or head gaskets (apologies limited mechanical knowledge). Either way i guess if its running nicely and no signs of smoke or any errors/gauges showing signs, i guess i just enjoy it!

The looks you get from people and thumbs up of approval are great too!

Glad you are enjoying the GS, just a thought could the smell be coming from the clutch

Could it be brake fluid smell? If you're driving hard, and therefore braking hard, the brake fluid does get rather hot and stinky.

Get the other clutch parameters checked, I don't understand them completely, but maybe if the pis / kis (?) are set incorrectly even a new clutch could give problems.

Its had the full once over with print outs on parameters etc. All fine. Brake fluid could also be a reason. I think im answering my own question in that im looking for faults! Much like when you google a headache and it comes back with a brain tumour! Since its running so sweet i guess i should just keep enjoying it!!

Cant wait for the weekend again!

If its a recently bought car it may have had the engine detailed and coated in all that shiny spray and lacquer. ..it may be that burning off.

Another possibility could be the heater matrix leaking? Check carpets not damp inside.

Mine smells the odd time as well, a lot of heat in a tight engine bay may mean "they all do that sir".

They get hot do these cars so I am not surprised they do smell. Mine does give off some clutch, brake fluid and oil smells on a warm day and with the window down! Enjoy it, surely that's what arouses and keep the autophilia alive? :)

That was my initial thought.

Another thing to look out for is they are 8 years old or so now and most will need a radiator by now. The coolant might be getting flung onto the hot parts of the engine.
