You're not wrong! So is the paint shop. It might be another *month* before I get my car back :(

Seriously, about the tie-rods. They were created by Craig, a member and highly skilled chap in Boston, MA. For business I tend to get over there every couple of months, so have bought some back for members. I know Matt has the latest set. Drew F used to have some . If you want me to talk to him, let me know

C

Sorry - been a bit busy racing, so not on the board quite so much at the moment.

Yes, I have a brand new set of Craig's tie rods on the shelf in the workshop. They are available for someone who wants them urgently.

I'm going to Vegas in 3 weeks and have extra baggage allowance. I wonder if the anti roll bars and springs will fit in my 2nd case?!

TSA will tear it apart. They attacked my box with the disks in and then set about my other checked-in bag for good measure.

They always seem to do that. TSA approved is bollox. They just go straight in with the cutting tools and hack things apart regardless. Buggers ******* a brand new suitcase with a built-in lock the last time.

I stopped locking cases ages ago, and have the combination set to 000 with it written against the selectors. As you've discovered, it's an absolute waste of time and money bothering to lock them. There's ever decreasing levels of manual handling now, which is a Good Thing in many respects - the machines tend not to steal things out of the cases for one.

Locked or not, they still take a machete to it!

Agreed, no point locking them. I just cable tie them closed to stop any casual theft or anybody slipping anything in!
Had one case opened by the authorities and they cable tied it shut again for me.

Right. Cable ties it is next time. That would totally **** me off, and I assume you have no recourse, so expensive as well?

How does it work at customs, that hernia looks painful , do you have anything to declare

Do you just blag it and act dumb if they stop you , I've bought watches and camera gear through before but never anything as obvious as brake discs

Well... the contents were totally undamaged but of course no one is actually responsible for the bag and the TSA is entitled to do whatever the h3ll it wants (which I'm ok with - if they think something's a threat I'd hate for them to be prevented by a small plasticky lock from investigating it). Damage to the box with the disks in didn't matter - the box and polystyrene packaging were going in the bin anyway. As for the damage to my bag, the airline did eventually grudgingly replace it. In general I'm a carry-on kind of chap, but in this case I had one bloody great bag and a 20kg cardboard box wrapped up with packing tape, plus a rucksack, so decided in the end to check all bar the rucksack.

Don't ever under-estimate how big and inconvenient it is to carry car stuff 5k miles. I won't. Not again.

Butterfly swords? Just swat them away if they annoy you. Or try this: http://viz.co.uk/insect-hammer/

When I left the UK for NZ it took me 2 days to pack my hand tools to start work here with and I contacted Air NZ letting them know and paid the excess baggage up front.
They knew I was coming one way on a residence visa etc etc.
I was still taken to a special room where they opened the lot and said you must be a mechanic doh !
Had to try and pack it back up nearly missing the flight stress or what.

My car felt exactly as you describe - not that I'm an F1 level driver or anything.

Chaps on here recommended starting with a matched set of tyres and geo set-up.

I went for the F1 eagles and Emblem did the set-up.

The tryes transformed the ride quality and the car feels much more stable with less of the initial oversteer low speed feeling.

Still quite soft and rolls.

Money well spent though.

Thanks All.

I have a set of rear toe links on their way (thanks Drew) and when they arrive i will decide where to go for the set up. I am tempted towards TDi in Lakeside. Sam Borgman there is a proper chassis guru and he know's a heck of a lot more than i do about vehicle dynamics. They will match the geo to the tyres (Pirelli) and hopefully will be able to give me more of what I am looking for. The only problem will be parts. I doubt they have any maser bushes in stock so it might be cut and come again. The other option is Roberto in Halstead. Good guy though he most certainly is, he is not a chassis master.

You're welcome. Should be with you tomorrow, Wednesday latest. You might want to consider getting hold of a couple of the splendid sockets Newton (2b1ask1) had made - your garage will thank you for it :)

I'm watching this thread with interest, as a novice watches in wonder as someone who knows what the h3ll they're doing does something impressive. I'd like to take my car for a proper geo setup but fear I'd fall at the first hurdle. "What's your driving style like?". "Er. Erratic? Inept?"

Regardless, I'm pretty sure the slight rear skip on gearchange under hard acceleration suggest something slightly out of line.
