Granturismo S, Sport Mode when starting

Hello All

Bought a 2011 Granturismo MC S in December. I have noticed that about 20% of the time when I start it switches out of Sport mode.

What should happen when starting?

Thanks in advance

It's Italian and will decide itself what to do. As long as you notice you will be fine.

FWIW as a general rule my auto will almost never retain Sport on a restart but that's probably Maserati protecting us gentle souls with the soft gearbox.

Hello Richard, welcome. Mine always starts out of sport mode. When it starts the valves are open (to get that initial bark from the exhaust) and then they close. And not long after that I press sport and the world is a better place again, and a little louder.

I did read somewhere that it should remember the mode is was in when it was turned off, but mine prefers not too. As BB says, it's Italian, why argue with it.

Interesting....

I agree that on the actual start the valves are always open.

But the salesman told me that the car stays in whatever mode (Sport On/Off) that it was in before turning off but the service guy says it always switches Sport mode off when the engine turns off.

My car can't quite decide and does a bit of both, but sounds like it may not be alone?

I'd say the service guy is correct (and more likely to be so in any case). Anyway, your car is in excellent company, Richard. Mine (almost) always starts in Auto and with Sport turned off.

The cars are probably set up in a risk averse way. For example you cannot switch from ice to sport mode directly, you have to switch ice mode off first.

Mine "normally" starts in girlie mode regardless of what it was in when I switched off, but today it decided to stay in "Loud" everytime. Odd!

"girlie" mode and "manly" mode seems to be a good way to describe it :)

The garage are looking into it in more details to find the parameters for it reverting to "girlie" mode. I shall let you know what they say.

Have you learnt the dark art of avoiding that terrible jerkiness which plagues these cars when you first start off, Richard? The kind that make you look like a complete buffoon? If not, here it is: slowly press the acceleratopr to the floor three or four time before you start the engine. And then start. Apparently no one knows why it solves the jerkiness problem, even Maserati. But it does.

I only get this jerkiness in reverse. When I first got the car I stalled it whilst trying to look cool reversing out of an awkward parking space in front of people. Certainly doesn't help the image!

I guess I have just got used to touching the throttle till reverse engages and then letting the car roll before giving it another blip.

I did read this tip on this forum the other day but keep forgetting to try it - I am going to go right now before my aging memory forgets again and I'll report back - thanks for tip.

I just tried it and can't say it felt any different to normal.

The car decided to start and stay in Sport mode after doing it. But as I say I never have much of an issue with jerkiness in forward , just the jerkiness of the clutch catching when in reverse.

Thanks for the tip though.
