Spot on Mike that's why I'm keeping my 4200 cc for ever and I'm with Ian use them like a few of us do. In over 3 years she has been the most reliable car I have ever had. For sure the best 10k spent. I can at the time my car being topic of conversation on various forums with people saying don't touch it. Come to remember the same was said about the 456 last year. Either I have been lucky or you go with your gut feeling if its right for you do it. Maserati is special to us all in many different ways
Me for one proud to be part of it. Phil.

Any car can suddenly develop issues, some are lucky and never have any, at the end of the day if you are buying, use your gut and your head not your heart. We all expect a few little things to need doing now and again, that's being a car owner. For a Maserati owner and a Supercar driver, they know maintenance is essential to keep these magnificent beasts on top form.

Mate had a look over the car today and found these issues. Interesting to hear your thoughts.

Brake Ducts brackets corroded and cable tied to car.
Brake Lines corroded
Radiator needs recoring/replacing
Exhaust needs replacing where two downpipes meet.

It will also of course mean that I need to get the following done as they NEED doing immediately imo.

Cambelt
Oil Change

I hope you are getting a chunk of money off for these jobs, it will maybe not pass a test in that condition, unless it's a back hander..??
If you are prepared to take it on as it is, then the price should reflect the condition and the work has to be done without question. Are you planning to do the work yourself..??
Any belts and hoses should ideally be replaced if it's stood for a few years, check the condition of them all and make a decision..!!

Well I mentioned these to the dealer and he said firm price at £9k and he won't budge really despite me needing to spend a good few K on these jobs. Overall My mate was well impressed with the engine and everything else which checked out fine.

I really don't know what to do. When I see forum cars like Pauls' go for 6900 It makes me think this is overpriced but looking on the classifieds tells me there are no cars under 10k at the moment.

It's just had a new MOT on it.

Said it before I'm a Mot tester and it only has to meet a minimum standard at the time of test when its on the ramp. Brake pads only need 1.5 mm on them and I could carry on. Phil.

A new MOT with corroded brake lines..?? I would ask for an independent inspection to be done at the closest Maserati Indie to you and if they agree to that then get it done. It will cost around £200 to £300 for a full inspection, but that could save you thousands literally. If they refuse to take it for an inspection, I would be tempted to pass on it at that money. You don't want to be landed with a load of bills from day one..?? See what they say..?? There is a list of indies on here, put it in to the search box. http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/sho...ti-specialists?highlight=Maserati+Independent

Phil,
What's the MOT view on corroded pipes and brackets held on with cable ties, pass, or fail..??

So the Brake ducts one I talked to a Maserati owner about and they apparently issued a recall where they then cable tied the lines to the rear arches. So I guess that one was my mate seeing what he thought was some bodge.

The other issues is that the Brake lines are corroded front to back and will need replacing.

I don't know when the MOT was issued but can check when I see the owner ASAP.

All in all I expected to have to spend on a car that has been effectively idle for a few years.

Best of luck with it, sounds like you've gone in with your eyes open - taking a friend who is a mechanic - so hopefully you know what the fixes will cost and that there are no other expensive issues.

Hope it turns out to be a great car for you

Thanks All, I have been onto Mike Roberts who assures me that most of what we found is normal and I am booking the car in with him to have the Rad, Cam and Service done ASAP.

He can then tell me about the condition of the brake pipes and exhaust as in 20 years he's never seen the lines/pipes corrode.

Will post pics when she's been detailed and fettled.

Thanks again!
