Im inclined to park up on axle stands and start with the list of jobs needed. An MOT in the middle of winter is a pain the bee-hind tbh. I'd like to get away from that so I can SORN the car and save myself bread. But a car without an MOT cant be re-taxed, and I cant get it to the MOT station without using the public highway...!
Carry on regardless I s'pose. Im not up fror winter road salt . I dont run any of my bikes on the road except my MX'er in winter...which is why I have one ! But to leave a 4200 idle might be asking for trouble..Still. My ultimate plan would be to lay it up...
Despite many claims it's a bad move, I notice alot of you guys winterize anyway !?

My garage is too narrow for me to raise it in there. Last winter I managed to do most of my audio upgrade with the car in the garage although the car has a few new micro dents since so the PDR guy will be called out soon. I have decided just not to bother working in there on anything other than the engine bay the body panels pick up dents so easily and its £55-£35 each to fix

I once SORNed a car when I bought a new one, tax was cancelled but they told my insurance who then hassled me to cancel the policy and pay extra fees. They wrote a letter to me saying that I could be driving the car with no tax or MOT after I SORNed it... left me a little confused, I don't understand the insurance implications of storing a car with no insurance... what if it catches fire.... does it come under home insurance?

It might. From experience, you'd need to discuss it with the underwriter as the sums involved are likely to be inadequate to cover your loss.
I cast about recently with a view to trying to insure a new build workshop space. Mostly the tools and equipment. If it isnt a commercial enterprise, it seemed all but impossible and I drew a blank...
Slightly different angle to the car thing..It used to be possible to go for "fire & theft" only cover...but they dont like doing this these days and you will struggle to find a policy that does this for you. I believe. Never say never, of course....
AIB- Darren specifically told that the policy has to be continuous...So they arent offering anything but the full year. Cancel at will, of course..but you then a new business policy ensues and incurs the associated costs (which, according to his recent post, is going up in Taxed costs alone, as we speak...!!)

that is unusual for an insurance company and must be a w4nk company you're with , you can get "laid up" insurance which covers the car when off the road, however, they tend to be not much cheaper than full insurance, home buildings/contents insurance will not cover your car

most if not all buildings/contents insurance will cover outbuildings if they are within your boundary and for personal/pleasure use (not commercial) contents would be covered, however, it depends on the level of cover you choose and/or need, some contents in outbuildings are capped at say 2.5k, but you can get far higher, but you would pay substantially more for the policy

some companies are complete tossers to deal with, I once wanted to take my daughter (as named driver) off other daughter's car policy and they wanted to charge me £55, so just left her on it, it's all a ploy/excuse to extort more money, fecking ridiculous
