At the risk of going down a rabbit hole... how many keys do you have?

C
:p this car is a big rabbit hole!
I've got 2...not sure if the other worked but just changed the batteries - have batteries for the regular one as well...but dont want to add another element in changing them just yet.

Oh my word! Thought I'd better check the key & the button has come off! I cant believe the coincidence of it...works fine, turn off the battery & the button falls off! Jeez...well will get this soldered back on & maybe it will work...?
My spare now has new batteries but doesnt remote open/close - would this need re- pairing? I did look but cant find an obvious link...

Success!
Got that button re-soldered on - put the alarm fuse back in (pos 33 https://www.manualslib.com/manual/631609/Maserati-Gransport.html?page=153#manual) and the regular key now works - no alarm.
Spare key - looked at Youtube - found this
Kinda followed it but it paired after 6 clicks of the regular key.
Both now new batteries.

Both same colour
So.... can move onto finding the original issue(s)

Hope it's not the clutch sensor. Friend had his spyder die at a set of traffic lights near his home.

So clutch sensor idea.... I do have one of the 2 springs missing from the clutch - is this likely to cause the engine to stop while running?

Are you saying that there are springs missing off the pressure plate or clutch pedal inside the car?

If clutch position sensor failure / fault you’d have a gearbox warning light and no cranking. (I know this from experience!)

The crank position sensor is the cheapest and easiest to replace, might be hard to see on diagnostics if it’s an intermittent fault mind.

Errr I'm not very mechanical - but it is one of the 2 springs in the clutch. This is due to either be replaced (clutch out) or whole clutch replaced - but only has 30% wear - so am weighing up if to just drive it until it properly breaks - but if it causes loss of engine while driving I will get it sorted asap.

No warning lights so maybe not the clutch sensor then. Yes, looked into replacing crank sensor ...not sure if i found stock in UK ...

Thank you for posting that video.
Would you believe I plan to change my key fob batteries today after an embarrassing fail last weekend?
Love the forum, we can assist each other.

Yep this forum has been a fantastic source of info since I was blessed with my (surprise) purchase of my ‘very characterful’ GS

I agree, that video was interesting.

Bruce, would you mind going through the 'battery change' procedure (and battery type) when you've done this? I should do mine before, rather than after a 'fail'...:)

Cheers, Greg

Be worth replacing the crank position sensor as they are quite a common failure / cranks but fails to start problem.
needs plugging in to really know.

Was it just a normal service or was any other work done - if there was it might be worth checking over that
Hi Gp - can you please confirm if this Ferrari part is the the same for Gransport?
182194
clearly just needs doing

Thanks

If you need brakes attendibg to, you might as well do the clutch and get all the issues sorted by bringing forward the date for the brake shoes.

I see little point in waiting around.

On the key fob issue, I change my key fob batteries on all three cars every three years without waiting for them to fail even though the fob works fine. It is a small cost versus the inconvenience and embarrassment of being locked out and frustrating people with the alarm going off.

The Porsche key requires reprogramming if it fails - expensive. It needs PIWIS dealer level diagnostic reader, also available at some indys. Price at indy for reprogramming is similar to main dealer price for modern classic porsche cars.

When I bought the Gransport, at the first service, I got Autoshield to change both key fob batteries and again 3 years later.

The spring they mention in the clutch that is broken is probably one of the two springs that the clutch bearing sits on. We have one in with the same fault at the moment. It does not drive!

I do repair the key buttons, post it to Sportsitalia with a return envelope and I’ll do it foc for you.

I have 20 new buttons in stock

Wow, so i guess its lucky mine works at all?
Shiltech gave me the option of replacing spring or replacing the whole clutch - not sure what to do as clutch wear only 30%
Guess i should do something sooner or later
