Hi all, my rear tyres are really worn and the front falkens arent the best so im changin all 4 tyres. Whats the best if cost isnt really an issue. Pirelli's? I have always used p zeros on my Brera and they seemed the best overall. Im guessing many have gone through lots of different sets so any advice would be great!

That's a pretty sweeping statement! I use Goodyear Eagle F1 A2s and, according to 'Tyre Reviews', they seem to be at least as good as the PS3s; better dry grip, the same wet grip and better marks in all other categories. They also fared better in group tests and that's why I went for the Goodyears over the Michelins. Horses for courses but there are a few decent tyres out there.

I am on MPS but am about to change to Goodyear Eagle F1s based on a recent Evo test where they outperformed MPS and were quieter too. Not that Ben notices tyre noise.

While we are talking tyres, has any one changed the size/profile to help minimise pothole damage? On the US side, they've talked about increasing width by 10 front and rear which with the same profile gives a bit more sidewall. Would increasing the profile help?
I've had two cracked rims in three years... Any thoughts?

Cheers M

I suppose it would, theoretically; a 10mm increase would only give about 3mm more on the sidewall so I wouldn't have thought it would make much difference. The 18s on the 4200 are very sturdy and don't crack whereas the 19s on the GS are a lot more flimsy. Tyres with soft sidewalls are probably better than the stiffer ones although you may lose some turn-in sharpness.

Mps3 best tyres as alrounder imho. Though have full set pirelli corsa on the 3200. I have two identical saab aeros 250 bhp. One has full set falken other has mps3. The car with the mps3 is night and day better for pushing on through the bends. Though thats on 250bhp not 400

Yep

Have the Eagles F1 A2 ......245F, 275 R

Provides a bit more rim protect due to width plus these tyres have nice wall band

So it turns out i've gone for neither! Giving Michelin Pilot Super Sports a go on both front and back. Car is in for a full restoration - full respray, alloy refurbs, the lot! Should be in concourse condition for the summer as i promised Alistair it would be when i bought it! Watch this space.....

I've got Michelin Pilot Super Sport's on mine and love them, had Goodyear AS2's on a Porsche previously and they were very good too, overall i'd say the Michelin's give more dry grip and also a little more feel but the AS2's were definitely better in the wet

Given that we have an awful lot of wet weather, thats why I went for the Goodyears. They are pretty darn good in the dry as well!

Mine are coming up for replacement and I will be going Goodyear Eagle F1 A2, although there were 3 lads at Le Mans all trying to get me to go Vredesteins as they all have been hugely impressed on various performance toys.

Curve ball question then.
Finally found a full set of P zero Rosso Corsa for my 3200 GT AC

When I asked supplier to ensure fronts are Directional, they said Pirellii no longer advise this and use assimettrico

Understand using assimettrico for the rear, bigger shoulder are = more tyre to lean on. Thought that directional with the Vee pattern and long radial grooves imroved steering feel.

Anyone else come across this dilemma? Maybe I am just thinking like the year 2001.

I have Vreds and they are fantastic. I've used several sets of them as well as PS2 and PS3 on various cars and both are great. I go for Vreds when I have one eye on cost as for the money, they are fab.

Looks like I am on the right track! The 3 tyres I considered for replacing my 452s were the Goodyears, the Vreds and the Michelins. Reading'Tyre Reviews' pushed me towards the Goodyears but I don't think you will go wrong with any of them.

Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2 for all four tyres on an 18" wheel are £615 fitted from Blackcircles or £540 delivered from Camskill. Both show an older mould for the front tyre for more money, but with worse wet weather rating (still A2's though). Tyreleader come out at £495 delivered, but don't have the same level of detail, so not sure which version I'd be getting and their delivery dates are woolly. Black boots come in at £915 fitted,.

Camskill were not able to do a price match with tyreleader.

Choices choices...

I've got avon zz5 's because it had new on the back when I bought it and I added 2 fronts, no complaints
£225 for the two fitted at home by event tyres.
