GT 4.2 vs Ghibli Petrol vs Ghibli Diesel vs 911 4S

I have been waiting to get a new car for months after getting v bored with my reliable , sensible and actually quite good 330D M Sport Conv.
I want something now thats fun to drive and puts a smile on my face (whilst also being able to fit my young daughter in and take on the occasional shopping run).

There seem to be so many pros and cons of the 4 I have whittled it down to.
I haven't managed to test drive a GT yet , but have experience of the others.
Does anyone have any strong thoughts?
If this is going to be my first Maserati ( and I am leaning heavily towards it at the moment) - which one should it be.

Would anyone consider PCH on a top spec ghibli considering they are offering a 15% discount at the moment - or would you go for a GT for the sense of occasion?

Opinions greatly appreciated as Maseratis are new to me, I am more familiar with Porsche and BMW.

For me, if you only have an occasional passenger, don't need 4 doors its a GT every time, such a good looking car, presence, sense of occasion and understated but quietly menacing!
Whats not too like, unless you need 4 doors??

Dave - I kinda agree...
Only problem is that its driving me insane taking my daughter in and out of the back of my coupe... and that on top of it being a diesel makes me want to....

I think the GT is just a beautiful car. My concerns are - would the two doors drive me crazy - or will it be easier to get at the back seats than a smaller 3 series. I think Maserati's brand appeal is second to none. I can't ignore the slightly crazy PCH deals at the moment though on the ghiblis. They are pretty stunning with a few well chosen options

agree re interior - I just love the front almost as much as I hate the interior :)
I bet a body shop would charge a fortune to put on that front bumper?

Take it she is too young for a booster seat in the front. Safety and family always first. Ghibli is a cracking car and you dont see many around. As an intro too Maserati ownership, could be worse.
But if I am honest, I would go for a GT!
Still 4 seats, maybe a little pain til the wee ones grow- but oh the joy!

GT for me...the 911 quicker but the other two are not as exciting as the GT to look at or be in...The Gt will be an event every time you get in it....The looks and noise...........The car in the add....I like the interior but everyone is different but the big question I would be asking is why has it had the front bumper changed. Not sure on the Stradale bumper as it is add odds as the rest of the car is standard 4.2 but that's just me........Plus it doesn't have the 20inch birdcage alloys as advertised it has the 19inch pretty much unloved standard alloys, yet then mentions 19's at the bottom.... It does seem cheaper than the others for sale...Most cars with 45 -50k on the clock are around 35k yet this low miles one with new bumpers is less. I would ask lots of questions on this one and get an independant inspection.

If you are fed up getting you daughter into and out of the 3 series, 911 is out as it will be even tighter. GT is better due to auto sliding seats which makes it relatively easy. Is this your DD. If so and you are doing in excess of 10k miles per year surely the Ghibli is the sensible compromise? If this is weekends and the odd weekday, GT is the way to go.

If the main drive is the rear seat piece then C4s is right you need the 4 doors on the Ghibli...

Thanks guys- that's really helpful.
I did think the one with 27k miles was cheap... And he will take even less for it!
The wheels look kerbed on the photo and I get the impression it hasn't been well looked after-they
Could always have forgotten to put cat D on the add!
Agree totally re: the mapped one. I have called them about that- I think it looks awesome and the remap
And exhaust are great. Only problem (for me- is it is brown...)
It would be my DD and auto slide seats will help a lot.
Could the ghibli ever match the sense of occasion? I am not sure..:(

Really, looks Nero to me.....Metallic Bournville is not a Maserati colour....Never heard of it........So not sure where they got that from.......The more I look at it the more I see it as Nero......Anyone else see brown in it...

On your last point.....for me it doesn't......GT is exotic.....Ghibli not so much....

How old is your daughter? Even with autoslide seats I struggle to get the baby cot thing out. Mine is a bit too wide and you need to lift it right to the top of the opening to get it out.

But I guess this is only for 9months.

Have a 5 and 3 year old who travel in the back of the GT. Not a problem getting them in and out. Mine's a weekend cruiser though.

As a daily driver, you will take a bigger hit once it's time to sell by racking up the miles.

Also maintenance will be higher (tyre wear on GTs not so flash due to heavy nature of car).

But hey, you only live once.

And agreed, as far as impact and sense of occasion, the GT is still the more impressive car.

The GTs naturally aspirated V8 is still magic after all these years as well. Certainly not something any spec Ghibli can compete with.

Great - thanks guys.

Andy - I agree it looks Nero - Thats why i called to enquire ... I like the options on it.
Apparently the last owner was the MD of a Landrover Franchise and painted it that odd colour...(professionally of course).
I think brown and red clashes somewhat! Apparently the dealer says brown only visible in bright sunlight...hmm Otherwise its the sort of car I would definitely want.

It would be a DD ideally, i don't commute far to and from work (max 10 miles each way) - but there is a good chance of quite a bit of stop start traffic :( especially in summer as I live near the sea.

My child is 16 months old...so would have a fixed car seat - it would only mean taking her in and out.

Good point re : miles Classico :( I have convinced my wife I will keep it forever... but men being men.... would probably want to change after 3 years or so.

I could consider a GT and getting a cheap golf to rack up the miles?

Also I really would advise front parking sensors as well.

Agree totally - good tip. I am a bit worried about parking. I scraped the Ghibli S i had on test drive going down my very narrow drive :/ Will have to get that sorted.

On a different topic - how much do you think a number plate like GT09 MAS or GT08 MAS would be worth?
I think that would look great, and there is a potential I could get it on a GT of the matching age.
Is it worth paying an extra K or so on the cost of the car?

PS - how does the auto slide function work? It would help to try it when I can finally take one for a test drive!

It just makes the seat slide forward automatically. Don't know how it compares to other makes I don't have anything to compare to.

You could get a plate. I am not really fussed about it. Not sure it would cost you a couple of thousand though. Probably if it was available only £350 as it does not really spell anything.

Personally I don't believe in getting a car to rack up the miles. I bought it so I am going to drive it. Otherwise what is the point? But I can see the point if you want to preserve the cost of the vehicle.
