GTS issue

Another niggle!

This time this morning, I thought sod it, and took the Maser in to work.

It all started without fault in its usual Normal Auto mode.

Got out the driveway on to the road and went for Sport manual and the paddles did not respond on the up shift. It would downshift but not up. So I put it back in Auto and all is well, back into Manual and still no go.

So the logical thing is the microswitch that the paddles actuate I suppose.

No errors on the dash, then blow me down, it just starts working as normal????

Anyone else had any issues with this on GTs or other CC cars?

At least it has reverted.

I have had a couple of check engine lights both caused by setting off from cold straight away and with heavy throttle. Nothing logged when the car was diagnosed.

My car was faultless on the way to the airport today. In London so hoping to see some nice cars whilst between meetings.

Just been out in here again, its all fine, very strange.

I think that maybe the microswitch stuck. I am away for the weekend so Ill see if it does it again when I come back.

My one would not turn the MCS on from time to time when sport was engaged. Turn it off and on again was normally the cure.
It also went through a faze of desengaging 1st or reverse when carrying out slow manuevers, then most embarassing of which was as I was trundling past the open door of the pub and anounced my arrival by revving up to 5,000 rpm completely involantarily.
Never had paddle failiure though.

Were you travelling quickly enough? I can't believe I'm asking, but if you're trying to change up too soon, I'm sure I've read it wont do it. I.e. try to change up at 1500 rpm.

(sorry Matt, I know, I know...what am I thinking! Changing up too soon indeed..... :))

Dan, when you say it slipped out of gear, do they do what 360's do? I remember being at a set of lights in one and as there was no throttle/brake, it decided to put the car in neutral! At least the 360 gives you a subtle audible notification!

The new car does that, and tbh it's a bit iritating. If you keep your foot ******* the brake it seems to keep it in gear.
The GT-S would also take it out of gear if neither pedal was pressed, but it seemed to take a bit longer and/or required less pressure on the brake pedal to keep it in gear. When my car did what I mentioned above it was literally as I lifted off and reapplied the accelerator that it slipped it out of gear. Same thing in reverse. Both of these only happened once.

On my QP it does not accept a change up command from the paddle if the engine is cold until, 2500rpm is reached. In Auto whilst cold it "holds the revs a liitle longer before changing up. I let mine idle for 30s or so before moving off & that tends to help the shift delay. I would suggest the paddle switch is fine & the software was preventing the change due to engine speed & / cold start conditions.

Cheers Ken, not just me then.

It was fine for the rest of the day. She is going into Dick Lovetts on the Thursday before Llandow to have the parking sensor, rear lights changed and the nav unit upgraded so I think she sounds like she has got her knickers in a twist, an ECU reset might sort it.

I am such a plum, that was indeed it, when cold you can't change up under 2500rpm I suppose as it loads the engine.

... An excellent example of how invaluable this forum is. There I was trying to sneak quietly through my village at 4am and going for early up-shifts to no avail. Thanks for a perfectly sensible answer to a perplexing situation. Next time I'll just drive properly. :)
