OK 2017 we did a big US tour mainly R66 but we started in Hawaii.
Honolulu is a great place to see , especially the beaches but other than that it is a normal loud American city. On the other hand the North shore of O'ahu is simply stunning, quite location with big rolling waves into lovely beaches, it's what you imagine Hawaii to be. We moved onto the big Island, Hawaii, because we wanted to see Volcanos. The west side is rocky and full of old volcanic flows, but there are some lovely golf resorts built into the landscape and the weather is fantastic. The East side gets much more weather and can vary from rain through to perfect sunshine, it is much lushier, more tropical with waterfalls and active volcanos. In the middle is the mighty Mauna Kea the biggest mountain in the would if you measure from its base at the bottom of the sea. Even it land projection is over 13000ft topped with telescopes that peer across the universe. It is an awesome place.
I will post some phots later, I always wanted to see a volcano larva flowing into the sea and I wasn't disappointed. I would happily live in Hawaii but not on O'ahu get out see the other islands they are stunning
