Help removing steering wheel airbag 2007 QPV

I watched a youtube video showing how to use a screwdriver to release the 2 airbag clips via the holes in the back of the steering wheel.
"Easy" I thought.
I spent almost an hour on Sunday with 5 or 6 different sizes/lengths of screwdrivers without success. I pushed the tools through the hole until I hit solid metal but I failed to find the sprung clips on either side.
I did not remove the steering column plastic shroud, so this might be the issue?
I looked easy but what am I doing wrong please?

Its been a while but once you get the right size screwdriver I've found twisting the screwdriver levers the spring out

Did you remove the plastic steering column covers?

Nope , left them in place - just rotated the wheel enough to get some room.

Got it! I did need to remove the covers to get enough of an angle to reach over the spring.
