fook me what a ball ache, so at the risk of sounding cynical, who's to say that the battery is indeed faulty, they simply replace it, tell you that it wasn't faulty so you then have to pick up the unknown carriage costs, and why mention the uncorroborated 50% statistic return rate??

LOL, great minds, that was the very first thought that went through my mind upon reading it; rest assured it’ll be marked if it needs sending back

The battery should discharge by 4% a week without a drain. So in this sense they are right, to hit 7.5v in 4 weeks is over the top.

If the battery has discharged to 7.5v it will have suffered sulfation to the plates (this is where lead suphate forms on the surface of the plates - reducing capacity and life). This is irreversible but in minor cases the battery can still work.

If it will take a charge from your new charger then all is well and good, but do get it on charge as soon as you can, the sulfation is happening as we discuss it.

Again, this is where the guy from Tayna gains credibility as he did warn me that the battery ‘might’ not take charge. When I told him which charger I’d purchased (i.e. not a cheap one) he did seem a bit easier that it ought to be fine if given a 24 hour blast. He said I’d know after about 20 minutes charge whether or not it would be Ok due to error messages on the charger. Fingers crossed Amazon deliver early tomorrow.

...and to be fair, all this talk of getting the customer to pay for postage if the battery is fine (just gone flat) is sound business sense - I guess due to the weight of these batteries the carriage isn’t exactly cheap - they can hardly keep forking out each time some noob sends a flat battery to them to be charged! He did say he’d do what he could to look after me (return for free I presume is what he was hinting at) as whilst I might been a noob maybe he’s clocked I wasn’t a time wasting noob!

My 2010 is still on it’s factory battery.

When I got the car the battery was useless, but a few recon sessions on the ctech and it hold a perfectly adequate charge for weeks at a time (even with a navtrack drain).

You have gone and said it now haven’t you?!

I'm interested to see if the cteck will breathe new life into my original battery - might be beyond resurrection by now though.

If the original battery went flat and now the replacement is also doing the same then it is most likely an electrical drain somewhere.

If you have a multimeter you can connect it in series with the battery to see how much current is being drawn under different conditions I.e locked and unlocked.

Yeah, a friend suggested that too. Think that's something for my old-man to assist with; I've got a multimeter but no clue how to use it properly!! Awaiting the ctek to arrive and then get the some juice running through it.
