Hi Hope you are all well. Been lurking here for a few years. But I have joined as I can’t find the answer to my problem.
Bit about me and Maserati. I don’t own it. It’s my fathers and get to use it when he’s out the country and take to shows. This is his 5 one. Started with the 3200. Witch he had 2 of and both seemed to spend a lot of time broken. He has had the 5 in the space of 20 years and just loves them.
So my problem.
Car has been parked up in the barn over winter. Battery discounted. I have put the battery on charge and was new last year. Put the battery on. Can hear the fuel pump prime. Windows drop on the door so the car has power. Key in and turn and no lights on the dash. Push start button and it cranks but won’t fire. All the electric are working in the car window, electric mirrors, and seats. But No headlights and no lights or garages working on the dash. Any idea guys.

There is sometimes a problem with the contacts in the ignition switch which prevents power getting to some of the circuits. That you have no headlights suggests this might be the problem. I would work the barrel a few times and see if it come back to life.

Oh and welcome!

Thanks for that. It would make sense as the wipers and indicators and heater fans had played up last year. I read on this forum I think. that it maybe a the spring in the barrel causing that problem.

If the heater fan, wipers and indicators played up last year then it sounds like zep is on the money.

I had the same problem with my old 4200 which would randomly do the same. The issue was a weak / sticky spring on the igntion barrel that returns the key to the correct position after cranking. On the GS you obviously have the start button as well but the key must be in the correct position otherwise the fans wipers and indicators wont work.

If the weak / sticky spring is the issue then turning the key very slightly should nudge it back into the correct position.

Worse case is that it needs a new spring which there is a thread on the forum. Cheap part but a bit of a pig to fit.

Wipers, heater, indicator and headlights are all fed by the start switched auxiliary power relay. Shouldn’t cause a no start but a place to check as well as the key.

Welcome to the forum, you're in the right place for sound advice for your Maserati as proved above, but the wrong place for serious and sensible life advice otherwise why would we have Maseratis?

Anyhow, I had similar ignition spring return issues with my 4200, I called it BMW mode as the indicators (and other stuff) wouldn't work.

Let us know how you get on.

All fixed. Managed to take it for a blast. The sound never gets old. It was the ignition spring I guess. Moved the key in and out side to side. A couple of light taps. And it fired up.
