Hideous BMW

Andy you should never have sold that E30 M3, one of my regrets was being offered one and turning it down :(

Not sure it's just BMW who have lost the plot styling wise they all seem to be going down the same route which is a pity but ultimately it comes down to the buying public.

You must be too young as they made some Great cars in the 70's 80's and early 90's.
A good friend of mine who worked for BMW in Bristol majority of his working life told me not to buy one made after 95.
Last one I owned was a 95 E36 M3 3.0 :)
With all due respect to your friend, but the best BMWs were probably made between 1995 and 2005....

E46 M3 - the best M car ever made by a mile
E39 M5 - the best 5 series
E38 740i Sport - the best 7 series
Z3MC - the coolest sports car BMW has made for a very very long time

Quality wise the above cars are head and shoulders above their 1970s, 1980s and 1990 brethren...

Have had a boatload of BMWs from the E21, E23, E24, E28, E34, E39, E46, Z3MC, Z4MC , E61, F85- mostly ///M cars, a few holy grails amongst them. The current models are mighty competent, mighty boring and also mighty made to last the first 5yrs....

Do you rate the E46 M3 as the best M?

I agree Andy and especially for 12k when they are over 100k now. It was a great car. Not fast these days but engaging and handled like it was on rails.

I usually like BM's but this, that I saw promoted recently, is absolutely hideous. Back end looks like about 6 of them designed a part each over the weekend at home and then stuck them together on Monday morning in the office.

A beautiful car, for me, should be uncluttered with flowing lines. Far too much going on here.

I quite like it for an SUV, the silver one not the blue thing above. The glass area is fantastic for a modern car.

On the whole it’s a lot better than the huge slab fronted blob that is the current gen of Range Rovers or those dumb coupe suv things that even Skoda are now doing.

I am going to agree with most of this. 1970s through mid 1990s Audi made the best cars (certainly in terms of quality, we can argue nuances of handling etc.)

From 1995 to 2005 BMW took the crown, every model hit the mark and was class-leading and peak BMW as it turned out. If they were able to launch those models again today it would be a sensation (I know there are a million reasons why they cannot but they all look so contemporary).

I will take the E46 Alpina B3S over the E46 M3 personally. My (nice day) daily driver....

Loved the E39's I had just brilliant in every way and the quality was exceptional recently passed on the autoroute a red one absolutely mint looking but boy didn't it look small amongst all the modern non descript stuff.
My first a 528i a 98 had it flat out 155mph and it had done 170,000 miles brilliant car.
My favourite Fun one was the 99 Z3M roadster in Estoril blue.

Had an E30 in the mid 90s albeit a 318i, an army friend had a run out model E30 325ix. I offerred him crazy money for it but he refused. He took it back to Scotland with him. If only, I'd still have it now.

I had a e36 and e43 M3 previously and loved them. I just largely ingore what BMW makes over the past decade or so. I hope it in a phase or smth. Neue klasse prototype seems to be bringing back some logic and style that I understand so keeping my faith that the company may return.

I saw one of these in black and all the accents were gold it was massive and the most hideous thing I have seen in a long time. Belongs over the pond for sure. Sorry overpondians.
