Hi

Have a 4200 and have noticed a high pitch whininig noise coming from the engine bay get louder over the past few months.

I had the auxilary belt changed a year ago but the pulleys weren't changed however with the engine running even at idle, I still get this high pitched whining noise. It sounds like its coming from the alternator (assuming that is what sits in the 'v' of the engine bay right at the front) but can't be 100% sure.

Has anyone else experienced something similar and if so what was the solution?

Thanks

Only once have I heard a high pitched whine from a GS and it was MAF. Trouble is, we have never been able to shut him up since. It becomes most annoying after a few beers but we have managed to live with it so far. Good luck with yours!

Get a stethescope and try to narrow it down. Put it on the alternator as its running. Soumds like a bearing somewhere up front
