Holiday in Modena

Got a long weekend with the boys and thinking of going to Modena.

What is the best to see there? Would be nice to go on a factory tour - but don't want to bore my friends silly.

So really just want to do the best!

We designed the Enzo Ferrari Museum so don't need pointers on that ... rather more info on factory tours.

I was thinking maybe the Pagani one? A Maserati one might be nice but how much is there to really see? The Ferrari I gather you need to be an owner?

Any thoughts or experiences gratefully appreciated. Also on where to stay and eat! And what else is a must visit.

There are 5 guys going in total.

Thanks

Pagani one is meant to be awesome, you need to mail them well in advance. The Lamborghini museum was great as was Casa di Enzo museum. There is so much to see as a petrolhead and I enjoyed going to Bologna to see the original workshop and the Piazza del Nettuno with Fontana del Nettuno with Neptune holding the sceptre which influenced the Trident logo.

Whilst in Bologna you can also visit the excellent Ducati museum.

I enjoyed the Collezione Umberto Panini. Getting a tour of the Maserati Factory is a bit tricky, you need to book through the dealer and they don't seem to be keen, perhaps embarrassed as the lack of Maseratis being built there.

To eat there are are lots of places in the centre of town, we didn't have a bad meal in the three nights were were there. We stayed in a small place outside town called the Villino Della Flanella. It was a bit basic, especially for breakfast, and a little tricky to find, but was cheap and had some very interesting decor. The latter because the place was a brothel up until the 50s and retains the look from then. I think I'd probably stay somewhere nearer the centre next time though.

Avoid the hitels on the outskirts as many are very close to the motorway and you hear them all night if you have the windows open...the cheaper hotels only have the A/C on in the summer.

Lots of great places to eat...but if you have a large breakfast you can enjoy the aperotivo at the bars in the evenings which are free if you are drinking there...so a bar crawl also become dinner crawl.

I did find the modern part of the town rather ugly and dirty...Bologna was far better as was Carpri.

IMG_1827.jpgWe went to the Pagani factory as they were about to move into new premises across the road (2013) got two tours for the price of one! Had to laugh, they let the Masers Fezzers lambos and Aston park in the factory grounds, the Porkers were refused entry and had to park outside ha ha.

Thanks guys. Really useful info. Yes I will take some medicine with me! I always get ill when I go away. I think it is just my body catching up with me.
How about Ferrari factory? Anyone been? Do I have to own a Ferrari to go?
