During the Christmas meet the horse racing was going well. The lead jockey was feeling confident when he was struck by a string of sausages. Undeterred he continued but he was then hit by an oven ready turkey, some chestnut stuffing and a generous portion of cranberry jelly. The force was so great that it unseated him from his mount and he was left hanging by the stirrups. (Sounds painful) Anyway he made a miraculous recovery and although he was well down the field by this time, he managed to regain control and the lead with less than a furlong to go. It was nonetheless extremely close. It was going top be a photo finish when he was hit by a Christmas pudding with brandy butter. It forced him into second place. Furious with the result he launched an appeal. The resultant stewards inquiry was unequivocal..... They ruled that he had been seriously hampered!
