That throttle blip thing that i am always hearing about but never heard.
How do you do it?
whats the trick and what is it?
Is it a sort of a rev before downshift so the engine reaches the speed of the gearing?
I have the CC box so cant induce this manually.
what do i have to do?
sport button on,foot slighlty on accelerator as the gear down is flipped?

personally adam i thought the CC gearbox blipped the throttle automatically during the downchange to help match engine speeds with transmission.
maybe the clackle is only audible with either decats or a sports exhaust - unless somebody is going to spill the beans :p

I understand that later versions of the softwear, changed to look after those who disliked the jumpy changes AKA JC, do not have this. Your MY04 falls into this bracket as do any cars whos softwear was updated by the main dealer during servicing.

Yes, its a GS thing, but sounds like you are running a very old software version.

Does the 4200 (not GS) do the blip thing?

I was told that the software was up to date and that the car is supposed to blip the throttle on downchanges but i certainly dont hear it.
Its meant to sound like a double clutch toe/heel thing.
I was told by lancasters that all this was checked along with recalls last sept 2009.
Maybe i will get Carrs to confirm the software version.

I don't notice this on mine.....maybe cos I only change up near the 6,999 revs mark each time.....;)....:)

Nor do I notice this really......on the down shift...?!...not sure.

I think it is in fact only a GS thing, I think its in sport mode only, and if you double downshift, you get a nice meaty blip, great for making grannies at bus stops jump.

As of 2007 i had the latest software in the 4200 and mines an 52 plate Jan 03 car , and yes mine certainly blips in sport on downshifts acentuated audibly more by the Tubi, i suggest that you warm the car up for 10 mins and do a battery reset , leave to idle for 10 mins and then blatt the **** out of it ,the more aggressive you are on the down changes , the more apparent it becomes , as it re-learns your driving style , they fall too easily into old man mode,

If your still with standard exhausts it is harder to hear , so window down , and watch the rev counter as you downshift , you should see the revs go momentarily up and then drop

Then for some uncanny reason , childishly you will have a stupid grin all over , works everytime
