How long did it take you to scratch the itch?

I have been eyeing up Granturismo sports for about a year now, and am now in a position to buy one. I am going on a euro road trip in July this year and will have one by then.
I am sure it is a process that a lot of car enthusiast go through when buying their dream car! Obsessively searching the internet, reading every forum post, watching every youtube video, getting test drives etc etc. Seriously I have probably spent more time researching these cars than I will actually driving it……. Ok I retract that statement, but you get my drift!

How long did it take you to actually bite the bullet, say f*** it and buy one?

What was it for you that made you decide to actually go for it and put your money where your mouth is and let the heart rule the head?

In my case it was about 3 weeks from thinking 'the Maserati spyder looks nice' to 'a pleasure doing business'. However, it was only a 4200 spyder in my case but it still counts!

I recon I would rather have my money in something I can enjoy, rather than let some faceless entity make money from it and give me a pitance for the privilege, so I just bought it, go for it, life's too short, hope you're not a banker ;)

I looked at all sorts of cars for about 3 months, Mercedes AMG, Porsche 911, Cayenne Turbo, M5, M6, Audi R8, Bentley GT etc. I did like some of them, but somehow they didn't really do it for me and suddenly I spotted the Maserati Grancabrio and I thought that's it, I HAVE to have it. Saw it on Monday bought it on Tuesday.
Just planning a little road trip through Germany and Austria which I will do in May or June. Go for it! :)

Craig,
Not with standing the thoughts above - I have been the same- over a year- its annoying the wife, probably son=me seasoned posters on here and some sellers, but, I cant afford to get it wrong(and hopefully wont). In that time I have looked at a few and test driven a couple. I think you know when you are there and I have 2 that are ruling my heart over sensible head. Just waiting for the tax year to end and things to settle then will decide, I actually enjoy the search process as much as I hoping will enjoy the owning process. Take your time and get the right car.

3 years for me to find and get into mine. As soon as I saw the 3200 launch in 98/99 I knew one day I would have one (or two! ).

Well there you go,
I am a mere malingerer, I have wanted a Maserati for far too long-daft boyhood story and all that-but that is now close-touching distance!!!

About a year. Spent the first 10 months of that thinking I'd be a fool to buy such an expensive / expensive to maintain / impractical car. Turns out they're actually very usable and therefore exceptionally good value. By the time I finally found the one I bought I kind of knew I was going to buy it before I'd even been to see it. Nailing the deal took about 20 minutes. The next ten days while it got ready were ****!

On the road trip front this summer *should* hold in store a ferry to Northern Spain then France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands blast, assuming I finally get round to planning it.

Good variety of answers. I guess the buying process for everyone is going to be completely different, depending on various factors.
Im pretty happy I now have three months to find the right one. Ideally I am looking for a circa 2011 GTS MC shift, Blu Sofisticato, light interior, 4 year major service done at around 60k, as soon as I fine one, its mine :)

This one is absolutely beautiful but stretching my budget a bit too far just now!

Initially thats the exact thoughts I had. 'You CANT buy a maserati, thats nuts. What if this goes wrong, that goes wrong, servicing costs etc etc'
Then I realised that if I'm not going to be spending the money on a true passion of mine, a maserati, its going to be sitting in the bank doing nothing. I work hard to earn more money, I just need to get used to spending it :)

End to end about 18 moths. Bought a QP IV really quickly (2 weeks) which was the final validation that Maserati was where I wanted to be be.

Heart was after a 3200, head and everyone I spoke to advised 4200. So to avoid any regrets it had to be a 4200 Spyder heart and head both satisfied. From decision to buy a Spyder it took about 3 months form first seeing Matts through inspection and handing over the cash to actually picking it up.

Regrets - absolutely none, well maybe I should have bought one earlier :)

Lol-sounds like a forthright Yorkshire man but then again I can not have an opinion as not a Maserati owner.

Yorkshire? F*cking Yorkshire?! I'm a Lancastrian and proud of it. F*cking Yorkshire, I've never heard the like.
