Yes I know speed isn't everything but this car is more than the speed from what I've read and its beginning feel like the 720s is the only super you need.....(unless you don't like the looks and then it's not)..........and when you think think that the Performante is Lambos latest incarnation of its top Huracan model the 720s just makes it looks like it's standing still.....

This car surely puts McLaren right up there with the best.....Bet there have been a few sleepless nights in Marannello over this one....

Would you over the 720......I wouldn't but wouldn't mind both as do love the Huracan....I certainly would have a Huracan over any of the current Ferraris...

Id still take the Lambo over the Macca, sorry.

And I love that subtle italian stripe on the Lambo, hum, got me thinking!

That's staggering. For looks and noise I'd take the Lambo, for the interior I'd have the Macca plus the sight of the airbrake in the mirrors. Frankly, how often do you need to do willy-waggling with a Macca driver on the open road anyway.

I'm not a fan of either McLaren or Lambo's but that Macca is amazingly fast however you look at it.

Its really interesting so many prefer the Lambo over the Mclaren.
I always thought I would - but really find the Huracan quite boxy and large. A matt black one drove past on my road this morning and I had to breathe in to get past.

I never looked at a Mclaren until recently, but after a few test drives and really exploring them, their styling and dynamics are divine. And what a weapon speed wise. Staggering. It only loses out to the 458 / Huracan sound wise, but on styling i really have to admire the Mclaren.

My major worry is residuals. As such a new brand its hard to predict. Although a £250k list price 650s spider for 150 is tempting!

Nice to see that they were conducting their tests in a safe environment and not on the motorway.

I think the McLaren is a fantastic piece of engineering but I'm not convinced by the looks - the 650S looks better IMHO. Not entirely sure about the looks of the Huracan either but it sounds so much better.

No interest in the Macs I'm afraid. They look Japanese and plastic. And the 720 is slower round the Nurberg than the Lambo Performante as well. So, the Lambo looks better, sounds better and is faster. It'll also have way better residuals. Add me to the Lambo camp please.

Admire the engineering of the McLaren. But having seen a couple in the flesh they do not do it for me.

Not a massive fan of the Huaracan in the looks department either. But again an impressive engineering achievement.

I think it sums up my pre-deliction for large front engined rear wheel drive GTs.

I wonder if that would change if I had a test drive of either? I may test that theory in the next few weeks as I stay near a Macca dealer when I travel with work.

Another vote for Lambo from me. McLarens just have no soul and no identity. And they sound far too quiet. I love my car for the noise, as do most of us. I forgive its shortcomings because it looks and sounds divine. McLarens neither look nor sound divine to my eyes and ears. Therefore you can keep it.

I agree with Damo in the 599 though and it’s luckky they are not 80k as that’s where my man maths calculator ceiling is! Even better that the FF is not that price or I’d have a dilemma. Can’t even pick up a good Gallardo for that which shows how “cheap” the Strad and GTS really are.

Well I suppose for a predominantly Italian car forum it shouldn't be a suprise.... ....... Never driven a Huracan but did a
12c Convertable back to back with a Gallardo and the 12c was faster, handled better and was more fun than the Lambo....It certainly didn't feel like it had no soul..... I favour the McLaren. I think it brilliant that a British make is out gunning the establishment. I do get the looks on the 720S as it is an acquired taste and needs to be the Sports spec one as it gets rid of that chrome around the glass house but it is bold a daring where as the Huracan is a bit .....well....safe....Lambos should be extravagant ...... I do love the Huracan though....it's a great shape the Huracan and in Spyder form even better.........The other piece is that the McLaren interiors just pee all over the Italians for me especially Ferrari who for me are just not that inspiring any more on the outside or in.....but hey we all see something different in cars......The other piece with McLaren is that they have been born out of Motorsport and while they car business is relatively young this will give them history and tells us that this breeds passion and a following.....look at the Marques with Motorsport history....?..Ferrari are regarded as the ultimate Supercar maker and this is born from their passion for Motorsport in the early days......Motorsport sells cars and gives us great cars due to their links with their track cousins.......

Agree Andy. Nice assessment.
Going to take out the 570s and Huracan back to back today and see.
I did like the 458 last weekend. But I keep coming back to drive the Maclaren.
I think it’s decision time this week. Hopefully Adam will fall in love with a V12 too!

I don't like the styling on the McLaren, mind you the Huracan is a bit "safe" for a Lambo. Not surprised about the result though; Lambo's are flash, McLaren build racing cars. Which would I have? None of the above.

I'd still have a 599/812 Superfast/FF/GTC4 Lusso over either of them. Maybe showing my age, but I'd rather have a performance car I can tour in without having to have the luggage shipped on ahead.

The only current Ferrari that does anything for me is the GTC4 Lusso but then I loved the FF.....

Not that it matters as short of the lottery win there is no chance of me in a position to buy any of these but here is my view

I don't like the style of modern Ferraris, they are just trying too hard, The last good one IMO was the 575, although I could accept a 599 at a push and if we are talking mid engine I would have to go back even further to the 288 GTO.

Lambos need to be OTT, they are as much about the sense of occasion as they are dynamic to drive. That said I do like the Huracan externally, but it is what a Ferrari should look like subtle, fast without being in your face.

However I have always like the McLaren, I like the fact that it isn't trying too hard, it stands out but doesn't scream look at me. I also like the fact that it is a bit softer, quieter, more refined, comfortable even - like a comfy pair of shoes you just know they are going to see you right throughout the day. The only thin I don't like about McLarens is what I read about post purchase customer service, parts availability etc. I know cost is a different at this level but it does seem that McLaren haven't managed to up after sales care to the level of other manufactuers, they sound more of the kit car support which should be the case at these price point.

A 650S, or even an MP12C Spider would be on my lottery win list as opposed to the Italian alternatives
