That reminds me, I won a lottery prize a couple of weeks ago. To claim it I just had to email the their customer services a scan of my passport, National Insurance number, and driving License (with an 's').

I must do that, then I can confirm the order for my MC20......

My Mrs single handedly tries to support the Oz economy via online shopping.
Hence the latest scam.
I’ve now started to get constant emails from shipping companies saying that they are unable to deliver the goods as some ‘duty’ needs to be paid on said delivery.
Bo11ocks it does.
It would appear they’ve breached the courier network and now have access to shipment numbers etc.
Beware, coming to a town near you.

His gmail address is spelt differently to his name though!

I wonder what their hit rate is. Total guess but maybe 1 in 100,000 emails?

I suspect lower than that. But hardly relevant given the sheer number of emails that can be sent for fundamentally no expenditure.

Some days I get several hundred spam emails of various types.

Whats all this talk of spam emails- I told you it’s genuine !

Seriously though, like most people I check junk email to spit genuine emails that I was expecting and have not arrived, and only get about one of these blatantly obvious scams a month if that, my wife however get 1-2 a week.

Only real difference is that she sign up for all sort of stuff, offers, research, blah blah and I don’t.

The more people have your email, the more spam you will get. I have my own domain, and give custom email addresses to all organisations. Had the domain for 20+ years. Hence the huge amount of spam I can get.

My filters are pretty good though ;)

Also a significant catch are the 'wiseguys' who decide to go along with the scam just for fun and end up in a longer dialogue.
The scammer sends out several million emails to addresses bought or stolen.
If you reply then you validate your email address and unless technologically aware you also provide other information on the email routing. Just the information that your email is valid is saleable!
So next step could be scammer sends a form for you to complete and, as you play the game, you open it. If your anti virus works then all is well - if it doesn't then you may have a problem....
Each and every interaction is a risk.

Get her to set up a 2nd email account? I never use my personal gmail on any websites - I have a second gmail with my name and surname the other way round for anything online. After 15 years my main one is still pretty much spam free.
