I think I need help!

Spent an hour early this evening doing a bit of prep before Brunty this weekend. I'll be replacing my discs and pads all round soon as these are definitely on their way out. Thought I'd drill out the crud in the holes of the disc to make them as efficient as possible, also noticed small heat cracks appearing around the holes on the front discs - this is why the 550 discs are better with the countersunk holes.

My issues began when I started cleaning the discs and calipers after clearing out the muck (amazing how much cr@p comes out!)

then decided to coat the calipers in wheel sealant and wax. I then went further than my OCD has ever taken me before when I decided to give the wheels a good clean off the car. I used various cleaners, tar remover, iron-x and then clayed the inside of the wheels - yes, clayed them! They were quite bad so I'm glad I did it.

Wax and sealant and they're looking good again!

Why not, good on you......I even wire brush the middle cooling gap with a slim wire bottle brush. Probably makes no bl00dy difference at all but makes me feel better.

I should get out more....

I don't wash mine that often because the dead flies cover up the stone chips!

Very nice - but did you remove and spray the plastic wheel arch liners black?
I did - but only on the back as the front has yet to be done

Love those wheels, which are they ?

Standard GranSport wheels in Mercury Grigio

Is that iron-x on steel brake discs? ;-)

Yep! It's not so aggressive that it'll start melting the discs, but it removed a lot of deposits from the discs and calipers and wasn't left long to dwell.

No, for 2 reasons - 1. they're not hard plastic on the GS, they're covered in a sort of fibre that I think is designed to limit water spray (maybe?!) and 2. the car will be getting a full detail and paint correction in the coming weeks. I don't want to do a half-arsed version of the professional's job!

Looking good, MAF. I confess to a wheel-off and clean / Swissvax all over approach every 6 months or so, but always wash the wheels inside as well as out. Though I've never clayed them. My wheels are pretty chipped following the **** surface-dressing work locally. Not overly impressed with the quality of finish the last time the wheels were refurbished - the paint does seem quite susceptible to chips.

The amount of muck you drilled out of the disks is about the same as I got out. Incredible how much builds up. Some holes were completely blocked.

PS - I'll have a food ban inside my car this year - no more children with ice creams!

The plastic container between the legs I was more concerned about, what on earth kind of habit is that in a nice Maserati..??
