I'm Erratic....

Yo.

My 2005 QP, while in traffic, only using the trottle lightly, the engine revs rise of their own accord. this happens from just over idle to about 1500rpm (i think). It can be frightening as you think the car is going to launch itself, uncontrolled, into the **** of the car in front. The same happens in reverse, only more so, as its most low revs being used.

It reminds me of a dirty Volume Control, I presume there is a similar type electrical set up and is this causing the erratic running?

See Ya!

I would suspect its the Throttle pedal potentiometer.

Do you have any lights on the dash?

No lights.

Where is the potentiometer/located? Is it prone to dirt?

Tnx.

Could be and that does not always through a CEL up.

GG, the pot is mounted onto of the accelerator pedal and they are not serviceable. It could also be the other end of the fly by wire throttle system, the Throttle body and that you can clean. Opening the bonnet you will see a pipe coming up from the right hand front behind the headlight going into the plenum that is the intake unit that sits onto of the engine. The Throttle Body or TB as we refer to it is a butterfly valve and can get sooted up, so you can clean it with carb cleaner and see how you get on.

You could try wiggling the accelerator pedal too to see if you can get the revs to settle down which would indicate a fault or you could have an air leak.

The MAF sensor also sits in that same intake pipe and is nearer the headlight. I would just change it if you think its faulty, the Bosch ones dont cost much.

I read about the pedal pot repair that Boomerang did and felt brave one day so took mine apart, as said its a sealed non-serviceable part but it does come apart. Anyhow, I opened it, then lost confidence and decided to simply use my hoover to suck any loose dirt out from inside. I then put it back together and its been perfect ever since. Note this was for a 3200, not a QP but I imagine they are similar in design.
