You may or may not have noticed, but the logo has been amended and the tridents removed from the forum buttons. This is a temporary measure whilst we are in negotiations.

I'd say guys an idea at one of our meets...on a Friday afternoon would be a mass picket at Maserati UKs offices........if 20 plus cars turned up.......placards....banners.........small riot.....;)...;)...attract the media.....make a point of sorts.....Italians don't do emabarassment very well....;)

Especially if they dismiss us as a group of owenes and enthusiasts, when we try now to make approachs to them!

How about all members writing to Maserati to voice our feelings? I am sure that 100 or so letters may make them think again

Before converting to Maserati cars I always drove sporty Renaults including Alpines and the more modern Renaultsports. As a result I became very involved with the club and joined the committee. We had a good relationship with Renault UK. We decided to limit members liability and turned the club to Ltd status. Renault UK were not happy initially for a Ltd company to use their exact brand diamond logo. However Renault France after much debate at board meetings agreed and took the stance why not? So we could use the logo and typeface as long as it was not altered in anyway and we did not say bad things about the brand. We didn't as members were all passionate owners - it worked very well. All committee members became directors and as the club was professional run there were no issues. So for a brand as big as Renault to allow this to happen cant see why Maserati cannot. It was made clear that although we had permission to use logos etc we were no way connected to Renault. Heck, they even promoted the club to new car buyers through their own publications.

The club and forum was seen as a positive community for them prompting the brand and social life style of Renault owners. It was also a place that the manufacturer could use to monitor thoughts/suggestions and signs of any issues with vehicles to address - sort of free market research for them.

So Maserati UK don't be so silly - be savvy and commercially clever and use forums to your advantage...

Rant over....

Interesting V8.......do any of the other high end marques have a closer relationship with their mother manufacturer?

How do they conduct themselves in public, in the media on the net?

Seen to be supportive always....................a bit critical at times but always supportive and enthusiastic regardless( like us) or always brick batting them at every opportunity?

I think a few ears tweeked or an informal meetup might be beneficial to our and Maseratis cause.

Point 1
Maserati 'adopted' the logo from Neptune's statue in Bologna, so it wasn't theirs in the first place; everyone assumes that they own the rights to the the trident, but do they?

Point 2
Assuming they do, or that no one wants (or can afford) to contest their right to it as a registered mark or whatever, then I can think of no better tribute than a pic or drawing of the statue itself which, presumably, they don't own. I'm sure that a little judicious photoshoping could enhance the relevant bits. Failing which the forum must have a talented artist who can come up with something appropriate.

Point 3
Claim that is is a human right to use the symbol of a mythical being, and at the very mention of Strasbourg Maserati will capitulate (no Loz, I said capitulate).

Has anyone spoken to one of the Franchise dealers about this they may be able to offer some advise and even support to guide us to the right person to talk to.As a start if we could get the support of a few or all of the dealer network it would put us in a better starting position

Can i take your advice as gospel then Phil , and call upon you as a defense witness when the time comes , its not my call and in the scale of things these are only small matters , but it certainly leaves a dent in your pride when we feel as owners and contributers to this forum and have all earned the right to use something that which makes us feel closer to the marque , nothing says maserati louder than the trident

Might help Andrew...but suspect this is a corporate directive similar across all the world, not sure how maseratilife get on with Maserati NA on things, but don't see much mention of interaction on their forum......anyone know their forum owner? Or other countries?

They don't use the Maserati script nor trident, and have a GT pic up......nothing else obvious to let one know.

Nope, them and MF have already been busted, its just us left.

I have not signed their form yet so say we will not use the logos or brand, but we have taken down the imagery concerned until a resolve is found or a new logo produced.

I can understand their concern, dont sweat on it, we have some things going on behind the scenes to try and rectify it.

It is a shame that they have been so short sighted but we will survive without the logo I think it looks fine and perhaps one day they will see that we promote the brand and not hinder it.
