Increased volume Gransport Rear Boxes

I am looking to increase the volume from my Gransport and wondered whether anyone had modified their exisiting gransport rear boxes by opening them up and removing some of the internals.

I already have a Larini manifold and sports cats. I have heard that removing the centre section can increase sound marginally therefore I am not sure that buying a larini x or h pipe will make much difference. I dont fancy buying Larini valved rear boxes given that they a fairly expensive.

Has anyone modified their stanard GS rear back box to increase the volume with the valves open?

Cheers

Does straight through pipes have a "tuned" sound?

I haven't heard any myself, but i've been told they sound very raw and loud when compared to tubi/larini boxes?

Straight through is the cheapest option, but iwant to achieve a smooth sound rather than a race car.

...sure...more raw.....less controlled........and less tuned.....prefer a throaty growl to whiny Ferrari noise....:)

I was thinking the same thing but won't have a chance to do anything about it this side of Easter.

What I was thinking was to open them up and make the valved open setting straight through/in silenced. I was also going to remove the mid box and replace with X pipe.

No as this would block the pipe and stall the car or blow the butterfly valve off down the road!

You have to have an alternate route if you throttle a pipe.

Great mind think alike! I think the open valve route must still be heavily silenced as my previous 4200 had straight through pipes and the car was significantly louder. My wife would not drive it therefore I need the valve option.

I think it's a case of one thing at a time. Do the rear boxes first, then the x pipe. I recon we can have an X pipe made for about £100 and its going to cost the same to have the boxes done, so its not going to break the bank.

Matt, are you talking about valved GS boxes, or, the standard 4200 boxes which are not valved.

I have been thinking about straight throughs but am concerned about drone.

I think the Larini X pipes will get what you need. I've got the secondary cats bypassed and larini X pipes on my GS. I would say it is quite loud in sport mode. It would be even louder since you have the larini manifolds.

I have the GS boxes on my Sypder so I am talking about opening them up and making the loud route straight through as it is still to some degree silenced.

Not wanting to offend but I think the GS volume in sport mode is quite loud enough for city use. Altering the pipes will ruin the lovely engine sound the GS makes and is not something I would like. Others might point ou that it's childish to shout "look at me" ... It's your choice -but think about it -please?

Do you have the rear boxes operating on a remote control or with a press of the Sport button, if so that must have been an expensive upgrade.

I wonder has anyone done a comparison the internals of the different muffler designs (e.g.. Tubi/Larini/Supersprint etc) to understand what creates the different "tuned" sounds?

It's a fascinating topic, and i'd like to know what makes Tubi deeper and Larini higher pitched for example...

You're right, it is our choice. To my mind a Supercar is a Supercar, not a city car and should sound like a Supercar. The louder the better as I am making it sound how I like it, not how pedestrians like it. If I'm burning the gas at £6.75 a gallon I'll make those waste gasses sound as good as I can. Sorry if you don't agree; it's a good job we are all different.

I have not had a good look at it yet but it appears the rear boxes have been set to open, manually, probably wired I would suspect, and no, its not loud enough!

Come on Aeros, where's your sense of fun!! Is someone going wild on the dance floor simply showing off for the benefit of others, or are they simply lost in the amazing music!?

My GS has the valved Larini boxes fitted....I am already addicted to the sound as I drive in Sport mode all the time. I'd imagine standard GS boxes are very quiet/tame by comparison. I agree with Ian - it sounds like it should.
