Right,

This is a cry for help - but not for Maserati insurance, which I'm happy with at around 700 quid for the year fully comp.

The problem I have is I can't seem to get a sensible quote for my Kia.
The facts are:
- 6 years no claims (but used on Maser currenty)
- 6 points (SP30's)
- aged 42
- car value is 3.5K
- third party fire and theft
- 6000 miles p.a., mostly social
- decent postcode (BS20)

But I can't get a quote under 700 quid!!! What gives? :frusty6:

Last year, with 5 yrs no claims, I was paying 255GBP?

Please help - I can't seem to crack this one.

Try Aplan. I had my Mas with them then bought the wife a Punto. It was a start again car so had zero no claims.

Aplan said as I already had a car with them that they would give me the same as full no claims in the form of a discount to the same percentage.

I then moved the Punto and the Mas and they sent me two full proof of no claims, one for each car.

You have to luv admin **** ups sometimes!

Pat speak to them and see if you can move the pair on the proviso you get the same deal as I did.

TBH, Aplan were brilliant for 5 years then all of a sudden, overnight, their prices went through the roof. I will give them a go when I get my next performance car as I really liked them.

Best deal is with Grouparmor at the moment i think , Aplan RSA honoured one policy at the low price but put the 4200 up hire than the GS howzat that comprehend , so i got it with aplan via grouparmor instead

It's obvious but I tend to begin with GoCompare to see what lots have to offer before getting onto the specialists.
I suspect that the lack of 60%NCB on that car may be a problem too.
Don't mention what the other car is either but it will be cheaper if you have another car to disclose (just not what it is!)
Though I would have expected around £230 in the normal course of events.

Cheers chaps, I got an ok deal by bolting it onto my existing Maser policy.

GoCompare was the site which was coming up as 700 quid from the off.

What irks me is that I have never ever had an accident, but just because I don't 'tie' my NCB to a particular policy then the insurers feel they can ratchet the price up.

Any excuse I guess. It's the same Carbon Units who feel it's fine to charge me 15 quid for a change of address. Rip Off Britain. Thanks Thatcher for introducing so much choice to the market place: my leccy, insurance and rail tickets are so much cheaper these days as a result ...

I had the same, which I haven't resolved yet, I'm paying about £700 for the Maser, and looked at buying an Abarth Stilo for the winter, but thought I'd keep the Maser insured in case we had some sunny days (lol).
The stilo was a grand (53 plate) but because o f starting with no no-claims , the best price at a quick look was £750 !!!!! FFS I'm 42 with no accidents etc etc !!

Have you tried Aviva or Admiral?

Aviva give us a good deal on our cars because we insure them all with them.

M insured the maser for £370 with full NCD and they gave her matching NCD on the 2.0 Focus as her second car.

Cheers

Not sure if i am reading all your comments correctly - quick squizz...but have you looked at a multi car policy, ie 1 policy, all cars with your current insurer, however maybe subject to criteria on mileage for the Maser, not sure what you do in her?

I needed to renew my Alfa GT yesterday, Direct Line wanted £380 to renew, went onto one of these comparisons sites and saved a £107 with Swinton, that's nearly a third.

Frank, Aplan used to be untouchable when it comes to Maseratis, but as of about 2 years ago, they lost their deal with Groupama and the great discounts disappeared.

I would have gone for a specialist, but I have 3 other cars so I took the offer from Admiral Multicar, and so far very good service. My partner tested their service by reversing the Legacy into the front of the house a few weeks ago and within 3 hours of calling Admiral, the car was collected by their approved repairer and back with us within 10 days ! I paid £600 for the 3200. Saved at least £300 against specialist.

4 cars £1600 Admiral !
