Insurance nonsense

Have to say I have had some decent service for my Insurance Co. When I bought the 2nd Maser the Co I was with could not cover it, so I had to cancell the 8 months left. I was expecting a fee for ending it early, but was surprised when they said they would not charge me as it was not my fault they could not cover a Group 20 car.

I'm moved from one insurer to....the same insurer but bought another way. The new (same) insurer is hassling me for NCD proof which the old (same) insurer has not managed to provide after over two weeks.

Strange that insurers have a common database on accidents but nothing on NCD which wastes loads of time ringing and e-mail for a piece of paper which, in this case, I dont' even need.

Churchill took money off me for a while and then announced that they don't cover my particular car. Which was strange. So they provided a full refund (including for the time when I was, er "covered", apologised profusely and left me to go and find someone else.

And to BB's point - drives me nuts when you spend half an hour going through name, address, DOB, all the blah blah and only at the end do they say sorry, we don't insure cars like that. Tits. Then why not work through the dealbreakers first! Grrr! (Here endeth the rant.)

I had to arrange my house building and contents insurance through a broker due to mortgage Co requirements when purchasing my new house recently. I got a letter on Saturday saying that the insurance company the brokers used may not provide the cover and so cancelled my insurance - wtf.. Phoned them to be told that they can not get anywhere near the original insurers price (£150) but they can offer me cover for £100 more - my response was that I'll shop around thanks. Did an online quote and found a better level of cover than original insurer was offering but for only £90. Once again brokers let me down and it also proves that shopping around is well worth the effort.

It's a minefield out there...

Saved £600 per year by moving home & contents insurance recently. Same level of cover. I had been guilty of laziness and staying with the same insurer for far too long.

Against (what I thought was my) my better judgement this year I took out a small additional policy to cover my £700 excess. Thank God I did! Saved me about £680.

The test of any insurance policy is how well they behave when you need them. APlan / Aviva shaping up pretty well so far.

I'm too with APlan/Aviva and have to say pretty good. Premium went down nearly £300 at renewal but you do have to push them to do their job properly. As with many brokers, I think their happy to just give you the ins co's renewal figure without researching the market. Would be pretty confident come claim time with (god forbid!) Aviva that car would go to Maserati and not fobbed off with cheaper repair.

The last 2yrs I've insured my 3200gt AC on a classic policy, no NCB but the value of the car is protected (if the worst was to happen) at a value provided by my Independent Specialist.
I'm very happy with the whole deal considering values of 3200s are pretty sketchy in the current market, I'd expect any insurance company would pay out the lowest example value if their hand was forced.
There are plenty of good classic insurers out there and I've found the customer service to be very much better than the mainstream insurers I've dealt with.
Not much help to those with newer model cars I know so apologies for that.

That also sounds like Admiral or the same group at least.

I have my QP and a Fiat 500 on Admiral multicar. Their renewal was over £1000 more than if I insure the cars separately.

I was insured with Saga, but recently changed to the AA (who offer Saga Insurance), the AA price was quite a bit lower than the Saga quote to renew and I got additional cover. Pays to shop around every year, never auto renew it's a total rip off..!!

.........Admiral multitheft by the sounds of it.......tw*ats

Actually they're the cheapest by far. They just haven't, in the past, made it possible to auto-renew due to the headline price. I liked the way the letter came with the actual price hidden by the fold and the first thing you saw in big letters was "your insurance is due for renewal, you need do nothing" or some such :)

does anyone know if the 'official' Maserati club has any sway with any particular Dick Turpin. May be worth the £50 joining fee if its a significant saving.
