Just like to point out that relays are supposed to click. The lower voltage in the control circuit energises the solenoid which magnetically attracts the armature, which makes a electrical contact of the wiper motor circuit. The relay control circuit energises and de-energises with every intermittent sweep. If you switch to constant you only hear the relay once as the motor is switched on and the mechanism moves the wipers back and forth.
Relays are electro-mechanical devices with a life measured in millions if not billions of switching movements. Solid state relays are pure electronic devices that work in a similar way.
