....Ok....Benny.....back to my house my rules................................cultural differences................attitudes...feelings......

They expect visitors to behave when they visit...whether to their homes, towns or countryside..........and those that don't will be dealt with more harshly than natives.....in effect you/we behave in an ill mannered fashion...and that is the biggest sin of all in France.............ergo...they use the full force of the law.....the way they think..................they look at things differently.......really....plus aint keen on the English on the first place!!!!

I always thought that you dealt with local transgressors harder than visitors because they should know the rules, we do. Also, the french speed limits are sometimes difficult to comprehend and, if I remember rightly, they even change when it's raining. Who decides when a light drizzle becomes rain? Is it 110 on A roads/ dual carriageways or motorways? I was under the impression that it was 110 in the countryside and was doing 132km/h and THOUGHT that was Ok. it wasn't. The limit was 90km/h and I was 42 km/h over the limit, as was the car in front, a mere 2 km/h over the ban limit. However, I paid the price but still think ill of the french and I doubt much will change that.

On the point of headlight adapters for France - has anyone ever fitted them to a GTS ? I have had conflicting comments in the past that they aren't needed as "the car has a flat beam and the steering adjusts it" - I am not 100% convinced and dont want to find out the hard way! But - I cant find an adapter that seems to be designed for the GTS. Any input gratefully received before i find a definitive answer from a French policeman!

I would check the Maserati store online. If they are needed, they will be on there......at silly prices of course!

My understanding is that the law states that your lights must not dazzle. It doesn't actually state that adapters must be fitted, so in theory you could take into account whether you plan to drive after night-fall or not. If you do choose to fit them, all sanctioned adapters have a universal fitting guide, which involves getting the beam checked (MOT stations have the correct equipment) and placing them manually. You could alternatively find yourself a wall and position them to mask the upper left corner of the beam. This isn't the prescribed method, but who's going to check?

I am in France at the moment, with my French Citroën C6.

Funnily enough Citroën say nothing should be applied to the HID lamps because of heat. The headlights rise conventionally on the left - a la any normal RHD car. I've asked Citroën for an official answer and they replied: "The car is suitable for use on the Continent for short periods only. If you intend staying for longer periods [undefined] you should exchange the headlights for LHD ones." What a load of eyewash.

Meanwhile, my apologies to any oncoming French drivers - that's what your motor manufacturer thinks of you.

I checked out the 4200 before going to Holand last year and the answer was confirmed as Miles says the Xenon lights are a flat beam and do not require any converters.

One should always drive respectfully in France, especially at Le Mans.

Do not behave like this whatever you do.

Excellant advice, Brits will NOT be carrying out similar shenanigans along the strip outside Maison Blanc Campsite this year, neither will they be cruising through town doing doughnuts, wheelies, stoppies, burn-outs or anything else offensive to the Gendarmerie (who of course have guns and no sense of humour)

This is very un-British and should be frowned upon

Breathalyser's

Don't forget the Breathalyser chaps. One has to be in your left ear and one in your right ear.
