Nice, though some may take issue with the PH "Sandyford, Dublin, UK"! Not since May 1921...

I have to ask

why is there such a big price difference between the 4200 and the GS considering they're more or less the same car

GTs are rapidly approaching 25k now , is it the potential for a future classic that makes it worth the money

Its the interior on this car that has made it cheap, its pretty horrendous IMHO.

If if was all tan it would be £3k more, black £2k more.

Well prices and lovely exterior colour and condition

I think the premium for GS is due to rarity value and it being the best performing of the coupe family. Its the same with the Ghibli - an SS is worth 30% more than the standard. Its the same car just with an extra 15bhp.

I expect standard 4.2 GT's will slip below the GS and settle in the high teens like the 4200. They will always be in the shadow of the GTS.

Anyone know why this GS does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds? People don't tend to understate the performance.
Agree on the seat trim. Really awful choice.

Simple - GranSports are way, way better than 4200s!

The difference between a facelift 4200 and a GS is mainly cosmetic. Running boards, larger wheels, revised centre consol and revised front seats aside. The only real difference apart from the cosmetics above is the valved boxes and a slightly lower stance which can be adjusted on the 4200's

Price on a good facelift at 30 to 40k miles sits around £22-23k GS's tend to start around the £25k area but you do get the extra carbon fibre as well for the premium.

Lower numbers of the GS produced keeps the prices higher as well. The biggest price difference is between the 4200 Spyder and the GS Spyder which the GS spyder really does command a premium as there are so few of them.

It never ceases to amaze me when owners talk down the value of our cars. The GS is simply a more aggressive version of the 42, similar to a Cayman R or a HGTE handling pack Ferrari. The different interior and various exterior bits make it that bit more desirable for many. Frankly, when compared to cars like the 996 Porsche or the Jaguar XKR, they should be far more valuable. Look at the value of the old Ferraris like the 348, 456 and 360 in comparison. I've driven all of these and the 360 in particular is not a better car than a good GS, yet it's worth twice. For what it's worth, the blue car in advert looks very well priced and something of a bargain. I agree that the interior is quite bold but I don't see that as an issue.

Be careful MAF, don't want to upset those owning the inferior models!!

I've never cared before, not going to start now!

The differences are the exterior and interior styling - carbon fibre trim, spoiler, seats, wheels, surfboards etc, +10bhp, faster gear changes, 10mm lower and valved rear exhaust boxes. Sure, you could change a 4200 to have most of these things, but it would still be a 4200!

The difference in the cars is quite a big one when you've driven both at length. I was offered this particular car a while back by a friend in Dublin, I think it had a very big gap in the history which was my reason for not buying. Personally, I think the interior is quite nice.

This car looks like a good buy for someone if an inspection checks out. There was a blue one on Autotrader a few weeks ago was higher mileage on 48k i think, private sale, the same colour and had the tech cloth interior and that sold within a week, albeit for 2k less.

Having looked at the pictures of this car i don't like the Maserati badges that someone has put on the front wings underneath the V8 and Gransport logos, they ruin the styling somewhat. And the car would look better if they added the Saetta logos on the rear panels like the LE has.

I meant the stance can be lowered on the 4200 to match the GS. Its not cost effectice to change the rest.

Is the gearbox software different between the GS and the facelift 4200 ?
I thought they were both on the latest software versions. I knew about the difference in software on the earlier 4200's. Blip on downshift as against no blip on earlier software. Im not disputing that your right. Im just saying i wasnt aware there was a software difference between the facelift and GS. Just makes me wonder why people have not flashed their gearbox software up to the GS version like they did with older 4200 software to the later versions were it was possible.

Talking of the extra 10bhp does that come from the better exhaust on the GS or is there a software tweak as well to achieve it on the GS ?

The extra power comes from a different intake manifold, Valve Seats, Valve Porting and a remap not to mention the exhaust.

As Phil said with the engine changes - hardly seems worth it as I'd be surprised anyone would notice such a tiny difference. Gearbox software is different on the GS to all 4200s AFAIK
